What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Electronic/Controls Engineer position at Hisense USA?
This is a key position in a core group of Engineers which will be leading R&D, NPD, and Support functions for Hisense USA Cooking products.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the Power Board and UI Hardware and Software specifications for both Electric and Gas ranges and future Cooking Product.
- Responsible for development and verification of all electronic components in the cooking products.
- Leads cooking performance development in terms of Temperature regulation algorithms.
- Performs software confirmation activities.
- Leads cost reduction activities for electric components.
- Represents Hisense USA R&D on the UL 858 committee and similar groups.
- Supports the development of prototypes for new appliances or upgrades to existing product line
- Supports the development of early-stage conceptual prototypes for technology demonstration/verification.
- Participates in consumer research activities.
- Contributes to the HUSA Intellectual Property generation by developing patentable concepts.
- Advises the service team as necessary
- Helps to develop HUSA R&D Testing Procedures
Factory Support:
- Assists the factory as necessary for support in identifying root causes of failures
- Helps to develop factory processes for electronic component evaluation and incoming inspection.
- Responsible for approving the use of electronic components in production
- Responsible for the approval of alternate components.
- Supports the factory and QC in evaluating new suppliers and components as necessary
- Helps to analyze quality issues from the field and supports field test participants.
- Performs testing in HUSA R&D lab to investigate issues, provide backup testing for factory, etc.
For New Product Development activities:
- Responsible for the Electronics and software development for new products
- Participates directly in the testing of all appliances in HUSA R&D at each stage of the NPD process.
- Travels to the factory with HUSA R&D cooking team to support important builds in the NPD process.
- Leads Electronics/Software certifications with UL or others and supports with the appliance certifications.
Qualifications:
- Education: A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 5 to 15 years of experience in product design and development of cooking ranges.
- Technical skills: Ability to design and prototype circuit boards. Proficiency in CAD software (NX preferred). Produce schematics and drawings. Perform tolerance stack-ups, FEA, and similar analysis as necessary. Design, develop, and test cooking algorithms. Ability to build prototype circuits/systems for innovation proof of concept.
- Knowledge of industry standards: Familiarity with ANSI Z21.1, UL 858 and other international regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines related to cooking range appliances.
- Project management skills: Ability to manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Problem-solving abilities: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify and resolve design, development, and manufacturing challenges.
- Design for Serviceability, Assembly, Cost, and simplicity: Awareness of how design impacts serviceability and cost beyond performance requirements.
- Communication and teamwork: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, product managers, and manufacturing personnel.
- Attention to detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure that all aspects of the cooking range structure design meet safety, functionality, and aesthetic requirements.
- Continuous improvement mindset: A commitment to continually reviewing and improving existing cooking range structures and processes to enhance product performance, efficiency, and safety.
