Overview:
The Lead Mechanical Engineer is a seasoned expert in cooking range design, testing, manufacturing, serviceability, and certification. This leader is familiar with design best practices and common methods for solving range design challenges. This role is critical for the development and improvement of innovative cooking range appliances. As an integral part of the product design and engineering team, the Lead Mechanical Engineer ensures that the company's cooking range products meet customer needs and expectations while adhering to safety standards and quality control guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and engineering: Design the range product for optimized cost and performance based on extensive experience and refined technical ability. Develop the designs in detail, including materials, components, and detailed structure for cooking ranges, ensuring that they meet safety standards, functionality, and aesthetic requirements. This role will be actively involved in the CAD design.
- Prototyping and testing: Build and test prototypes of cooking ranges to evaluate their performance, safety, quality, and serviceability. Make necessary adjustments based on test results to improve the design. Perform UL and CSA standards tests to confirm design compliance.
- Research and development: Generate new ideas and prototype concepts. Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, materials, and technologies, and apply them to create innovative cooking range designs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, designers, and product managers to develop cooking range appliances that meet market demands, cost targets, and production requirements.
- Manufacturing support: Assist in the development of manufacturing processes and tooling for the production of cooking range parts and assemblies. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure that the designs can be produced efficiently and with consistent quality.
- Quality control: Establish and maintain quality control standards for cooking ranges, ensuring that finished products meet or exceed industry standards and customer expectations.
- Regulatory compliance: Ensure that cooking range structures meet all applicable local, national, and international regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
- Technical documentation: Prepare detailed technical documentation, such as design specifications, assembly instructions, and user manuals to support production, installation, and maintenance activities.
- Project management: Manage design and testing work within project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure that cooking range development projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Continuous improvement: Regularly review and analyze the performance of existing cooking range structures, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement necessary changes to enhance their performance, quality, and safety.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience: 5-15 years of experience in product design and development of cooking ranges.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA) for designing and drafting cooking range structures. SIEMENS NX Preferred. Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools (such as FEA or CFD) to evaluate structural performance, safety, and quality. Sheet metal fabrication experience. Perform tolerance stack-ups, FEA, and similar analysis as necessary.
- Knowledge of industry standards: Familiarity with ANSI Z21.1, UL 858 and other international regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines related to cooking range appliances.
- Manufacturing knowledge: Understanding of Sheet Metal design and fabrication, manufacturing processes, materials, and tooling, along with experience working closely with manufacturing teams to ensure efficient and cost-effective production.
- Project management skills: Ability to manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Problem-solving abilities: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify and resolve design, development, and manufacturing challenges.
- Design for Serviceability, Assembly, Cost, and simplicity: Awareness of how design impacts serviceability and cost beyond performance requirements.
- Communication and teamwork: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, product managers, and manufacturing personnel.
- Attention to detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure that all aspects of the cooking range structure design meet safety, functionality, and aesthetic requirements.
- Continuous improvement mindset: A commitment to continually reviewing and improving existing cooking range structures and processes to enhance product performance, efficiency, and safety.
- Ability to travel to Mexico factory
- Bilingual with English & Spanish and/or Mandarin a plus
