What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Guide, North Shore Massachusetts position at Historic New England?
Description: Historic New England seeks seasonal, part-time Guides to work select weekday and weekend days at North Shore sites in Salem, MA and Saugus, MA. Phillips House, the only mansion open to the public on historic Chestnut Street, focuses on the Phillips family’s life as an upper-middle class family in the early 20th Century, while tours of Gedney House and Boardman House explore the changes in New England life from 17th century to the 20th century, from taverns and witch trials to an unbroken line of family ownership lasting over 200 years. In addition to tours, guides will assist with daily museum operations including online ticketing and membership sales, museum maintenance, and opening and closing the museum. Training is provided.
Qualifications: Applicants should enjoy working with the public, have an interest in inclusive history, and be comfortable working with computers. Experience in customer service is desirable. Must be available to work at more than one site and be able to work a flexible schedule Thursdays – Sundays, Mondays in October and Halloween week. Applicants must commit to employment through the end of the 2025 season, June – November 2.
