Historic Oakland Foundation (HOF) seeks a Lead Camp Counselor for Oakland Camps 2025 at Atlanta’s historic Oakland Cemetery. This position is a great opportunity to work with young learners while growing your leadership, management, communication, and teamwork skills.
Under the direction of the Director of Education, the Lead Camp Counselor will be primarily responsible for supporting the youth camp program and providing guidance, safety, leadership, education, and enjoyment for children served by camp. The Lead camp counselor will work in tandem with an additional camp counselor to direct a variety of activities, games, and crafts for a group of up to 20 students (ages 6-11).
Camp Dates: Spring Break Camp is April 7-11, 2025. Summer camps run from June 2 - July 25, 2025 at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work with HOF Director of Education and other staff to establish a supportive and structured environment
- Lead and facilitate daily activities for camp participants in both indoor and outdoor settings
- Assist with daily check-in and check-out for campers
- Maintain the camp schedule and ensure orderly transition between camp activities
- Support activities for participants during downtime and transitional times
- Create a safe and inclusive environment that fosters growth and development.
- Supervise campers to ensures their safety, development, and general well-being
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including attendance and incident reports
- Understand and implement HOF emergency incident procedures and protocols
- Attend pre-camp orientation meetings and trainings
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience working in a youth development setting with strong behavior management skills
- Must be able to effectively engage with and lead groups of children aged 6-11 independently and in various indoor/outdoor conditions.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
- Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR
- Effective communication & leadership skills along with the ability to motivate small and large groups of children.
