What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bartender position at Historic Santa Maria Inn?
The Historic Santa Maria Inn is looking for an addition to its Taproom. Our ideal candidate would be customer service driven and have open availability on the weekends.
Purpose of the Position: To make all drinks for lounge customers while providing guests with professional, efficient service and quality made beverages.
Qualifications: 2yrs of Bartending Experience preferred

Reports To: Food and Beverage Supervisor
Essential Responsibilities:
- Is punctual and dressed for work at a scheduled time.
- Must be completely familiar with all the various kinds of liquor, recipes and prices of drinks, proper glassware, and garnishes.
- Prepares and serves all drink orders.
- Ensure the bar is stocked up to par at all times.
- Promotes and upsells liquor and food.
- Completes daily checklist.
- Makes sure all beverages leaving the bar are accounted for.
- Follow guidelines established regarding age identification for suspected minors.
- Follow guidelines established regarding dealing with an intoxicated customer.
- Must be familiar with cash handling procedures to include proper discounting, TOAST System, bank procedures and tip policies.
- Provides a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules.
- Attend Company orientation, department meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in employee handbook.
Non-Essential Responsibilities:
- Picks up bar keys, unlocks bar and sets bar up for the day shift.
- Assist servers, when necessary, on the floor with their tables.
- Cut and prepare all garnishes for lounge and restaurant use.
- Works Banquet Bar shifts as needed.
- Attends monthly department meetings.
To Do This Kind of Work You Must Be Able To:
- Memorize drinks, ingredients, and garnishes.
- Use arithmetic to check totals and make change.
- Talk with various kinds of people to give information, answer questions, and provide the service required.
- Stand or walk for varying lengths of time, sometimes for prolonged periods.
- Move fingers, hands, and arms quickly to handle glasses, dishes, napkins, and money.
- Understand and operate TOAST system (or registers.)
- Obtain and maintain Food Handler and RBS certifications.
Physical Demands:
Lifting to fifty (50) pounds maximum, with frequent twisting, bending, lifting, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, smiling.

Pay: From $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 28 per week
