The Senator John Heinz History Center, is seeking a part-time, seasonal, Maintenance Assistant for the Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village located in Avella, PA.
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the maintenance of the museum grounds. Duties include but are not limited to: maintaining grounds through weekly mowing and weed-whacking of designated areas during growing season, raking and removal of leaves, tree limbs and debris; maintaining asphalt and gravel roads and pathways through seasonal cleaning of drainage ditches, trash removal from containers throughout museum grounds; keeping roads free of obstructions. The Maintenance Assistant will assist with the regular cyclical maintenance of all museum buildings including cleaning of gutters and downspouts, keeping roofs clear of limbs and debris, cleaning of chimneys, pest control, and periodic inspection for routine repairs while demonstrating sensitivity to the nature of the museum’s historic structures.
This is a part-time, 3-day per week position working seasonally from early April through mid-
November. An occasional weekend shift may be required.
This position reports to the Site Manager of Facilities and Security Operations at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent with a valid PA driver’s license.
Must be able to operate standard lawn mowing equipment, drive standard transmission vehicle
and work independently.
Position will require working on ladder or on roof for some maintenance projects.
Pennsylvania Act 33/34/114 clearances.
