Hitachi Astemo Rock Spring, Inc. was established in 2000 and supplies aluminum knuckles to Honda and Subaru. We are in Rock Spring, GA, and operate on 3 shifts with 400 employees. We have three main manufacturing departments, Casting, Machining, and Press Assembly. We are part of Hitachi Astemo, inc. with 90,000 employees worldwide.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
As an Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience and contribute to real engineering projects. Under the guidance and mentorship of our experienced engineers and the Head of Engineering, you will assist in various engineering tasks and projects, while expanding your knowledge and skills in the field of automotive engineering. This internship will provide you with valuable learning experience and a foundation for your future career in engineering.
- Assist in conducting research, data collection, and analysis for engineering projects.
- Support the design and development of automotive components, systems, and processes.
- Collaborate with engineers to create technical drawings and documentation.
- Assist in testing and prototyping activities to evaluate product performance.
- Participate in engineering meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project reviews.
- Contribute to problem-solving efforts, offering creative ideas and solutions.
- Support the implementation of quality control measures and process improvements.
- Conduct literature reviews and gather information related to engineering projects.
- Follow safety guidelines and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Perform other tasks and assignments as directed by the Head of Engineering.
When accomplishing tasks, remember to work toward meeting overall company goals established which include, OSHA safety compliance, ISO 14001 Environmental Compliance, Ethical & Legal compliance, Customer Quality, Production to Plan, and Delivery Performance.
Safety & Environmental:
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices within the engineering department.
Quality:
- Maintain a high level of quality assurance and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within engineering processes.
- Collaborate closely with the quality assurance team to ensure products meet or exceed customer specifications.
- Follow established quality standards and procedures during engineering activities.
Delivery:
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion and delivery of engineering projects.
- Proactively communicate any challenges or potential delays that may impact project timelines.
- Assist in the prioritization of tasks to ensure efficient project delivery.
Productivity:
- Identify opportunities for productivity improvements within engineering activities, proposing and implementing measures to increase efficiency and optimize resource utilization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and eliminate waste, contributing to overall productivity gains.
Reporting:
- Provide regular updates on project progress, achievements, challenges, and next steps to the Head of Engineering or relevant stakeholders.
- Assist in preparing reports and documentation related to engineering activities.
Key Metrics Responsibility:
- Assist in defining, tracking, and analyzing key metrics related to engineering projects and activities.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to develop measurement frameworks and systems to collect accurate data on key metrics.
- Participate in reporting on key metrics and providing insights to help drive decision-making and accountability for engineering goals.
Qualifications
Preferred Skills:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Strong interest in automotive engineering and passion for innovation in the automotive industry.
- Solid understanding of engineering principles and technical concepts.
- Proficiency in CAD software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor.
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in the automotive industry.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Enthusiasm to learn and willingness to take on new challenges.
- Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Minimum Experienced Preferred:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Strong interest in automotive engineering and passion for innovation in the automotive industry.
- Solid understanding of engineering principles and technical concepts.
- Proficiency in CAD software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor.
