Research Scientist in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Thermal Management – Krakow, Poland

For our research center in Krakow/Poland, we are looking for a Researcher with expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and thermal management. You will join a dynamic, motivated, and creative team with a broad range of experience and competencies. As part of our team, you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing, and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.

The research area in which you will work is cooling design and thermal-flow analysis of products for energy systems. It also includes other phenomena such as heat generation due to electro-magnetic effects, two-phase flows and high-speed events. As a market leader accelerating the evolution of the world’s energy system, we put substantial effort into research and development to constantly increase the quality and reliability of our products. You will be able to contribute to this development and create cutting-edge solutions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Conduct thermal-flow simulations for Hitachi Energy Business Units.
  • Propose, contribute to, and lead research and development projects for numerical simulations of products for energy systems.
  • Formulate clear conclusions and practical recommendations for the business. Report your work and findings in project documentation.
  • Collaborate globally with teams of researchers and engineers at Hitachi Energy to identify, analyze, and solve real-world challenges in optimizing designs for future-generation products.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the latest numerical analysis technologies, algorithms, and software packages. Recognize opportunities for their practical application in industrial conditions.
  • Actively promote your knowledge within the company and outside.
  • Collaborate with local and global external partners, including universities, startups, and vendors.
  • Disseminate your results in technical reports, scientific publications, research conferences, and patent applications.

Requirements

  • Master’s or higher degree in Power Engineering, Physics, Material Engineering, or related field.
  • Fundamentals in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, thermal management, dynamic and static analysis.
  • Knowledge of CFD/FEM analysis (e.g., Ansys Fluent/CFX/IcePak, StarCCM , COMSOL) and principals of CAD modeling (e.g. PTC Creo, SolidWorks, NX)
  • Understanding of natural and forced convection, turbulence models, radiative heat exchange. Knowledge about heat generation due to electro-magnetic effects (ohmic and magnetic losses) will be a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of writing of User Defined Functions and/or Python programming language will be a plus.
  • Willingness to take an interdisciplinary approach and learn new knowledge when working with experts from different domains. 
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

In addition, the following skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Knowledge about power network business, green energy, respective requirements, and industry standards.
