Job Description:
Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Telecom Design Specialist who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Oakland, CA.
Accountabilities:
- Plan, execute, monitor and control Design, configuration, test and commissioning activities for the telecommunication system according to the overall program schedule.
- Interface with Customer and Managers on design and commissioning status
- Maintain an open action items list and produce effective reporting.
- Perform and be accountable for verification and validation activities starting in the factory until system hand over
- Configure Radio Systems
- Configure Networks
- Supervise installations of Fiber Optic Cabling Systems and data communications systems
- Perform site surveys on railroad property to lay out basic equipment.
- Commissioning, Optimization and testing of Radio, network and fibers.
- May serve as onsite main contact
- May serve as the site leader for communications
Required Skills & Experience:
- 5 up to 10 years of working experience
- Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, terminology and trends in communications engineering including the fields of radio frequency allocations, electromagnetic wave propagation, and radio frequency field strength measurements and tolerances.
- Knowledge of fiber optics, computers, digital communications processors, servers, programming, applications, software, and hardware related to radio communications.
- Working knowledge of Complex Networks design, both wired and wireless
- Experience with network architecture design
- Working Knowledge of network design patterns, constraints and protocols (CCNA or equivalent certification preferred)
- Working knowledge of Switching and Routing protocols
- Working knowledge of wireless communications in demanding scenarios
- Ability to use sophisticated test equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes and a spectrum analyzer.
- Working knowledge of Test and commissioning processes
- Skilled in handling electric, electronic, and mechanical drawings and schematics
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to communicate complex technical information
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of telecoms systems for the railway industry
- Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering or Information Technology Qualifications/ University Degree
- From 2 years of Railway System Engineering expertise
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering area or equivalent technical background
In accordance with the DOT’s FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi’s substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.
The salary range for this position is $108,00- $162,00 per year. Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
