What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vacation Camp Counselor - Two Weeks - February and April + planning time position at Hitchcock Center for the Environment?
Get outside in February and April vacation! The Hitchcock Center is looking for paid camp counselors to help on our Winter and Spring break vacation days. If you enjoy working with children, being outside, and playing in nature, the Hitchcock Center would love to see your application!
Vacation day counselors will modify and teach a curriculum about climate change, science and engineering, art, nature, and sense of belonging. They will be supported by a camp director, year-round educators, and the Hitchcock Administrative staff. The Hitchcock Center is looking for educators with a growth mindset, a passion for the outdoors, and an ability to keep themselves and their campers safe. Each vacation week is 40 hours from 8am to 4pm and up to 15 hours of comprehensive paid training.
February vacation days are February 17th to 21st and April days are April 21st to 25th. Training schedule is flexible.
Must haves
- Experience working with and supervising a group of children in a classroom, camp, or equivalent setting.
- Pass criminal and sex offender background checks.
- Be at least 18 years old or have completed high school.
- Ability to work independently and with a co-counselor.
- Passion and curiosity about the natural world.
Able to communicate, demonstrate a growth mindset, and accept and give feedback. Ability to respond calmly in a crisis and keep yourself and the people around you safe.
Nice to haves
- Experience developing and teaching curriculum, particularly in the field of environmental education.
Duties and Responsibilities
Co-lead groups of up to 15 children ages 6-10 in an outdoor/indoor classroom Teach environmental camp activities such as outdoor exploration, nature-themed games, songs, and art projects, and science experiments and engineering design
- Be aware of health, safety, well-being and location of campers at all times.
