Monitors, repairs and maintains programmable logic controller (PLC) systems used within manufacturing environment. Installs and services a variety of systems including process control, measuring and indicating instruments, safety and security and energy delivery (hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical) systems. Support production through continuous improvement efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of automated equipment. Document procedures and make recommendations as to upgrades or process improvements. Prepare reports as needed for managers. Robotic teach pendant, integrated vision/laser systems, Volt/Ohm meter, industrial robot offline programming software, ammeter, oscilloscope, robotic test equipment, programmable controllers, multipoint recorders, in addition to general maintenance tools.
Materials:
Manual/pneumatic fixtures, grippers, small electrical circuit boards and components, electrical motors, and programmable logic controllers
Direction of Others:
May be involved in training and developing less experienced technical personnel.

Working Procedure:
The following are the usual major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor:
- Diagnose problems and make repairs or modifications to automated production equipment requiring electrical, electronic and mechanical skills, as applicable, in an efficient manner to avoid downtime and reoccurrence.
- Must be proficient in text-based robot programming languages; having a background in RSLogics, VB and C would be beneficial.
- Support production through continuous improvement efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of automated equipment.
- Maintain automated production work cells.
- Troubleshoot electronic circuitry such as machine logic circuits and controls.
- Troubleshoot and adjust robot programs as needed.
- Interpret electrical schematics.
- Document procedures and make recommendations as to upgrades or process improvements.
- Calibrate test instruments and equipment.
- Research and requisition proper replacement parts necessary to perform repairs.
- Observe the Hitchiner code of conduct, safety and quality principles.
- Must follow all safety requirements of job as outlined on the job safety card.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Completes all paperwork associated with the job. Correctly maintain all forms and instruction sheets.
- Maintains a clean and orderly working environment.
- Inform your supervisor about problems that occur.
- May be required to handle hazardous waste by collecting and transferring the waste into proper containers at satellite storage areas or storage areas and assuring that the containers are properly inspected, labeled, and closed as required. Must follow correct instruction for handling hazardous waste and report any deviations to supervisor immediately. Must attend yearly instruction in hazardous waste handling and review of current procedures if job duties could affect non-compliance.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the specification, development, testing, integration, and validation of automated manufacturing equipment.
- Proven working knowledge of system communications and ability to configure system interfaces via industry standards.
- Completion of Robotics Certificate from Manchester Community College or comparable.
- Additional formal training with PLC based controls, i.e.: Ladder logic, function block and visual basic, or equivalent a must.
- Ability to read blueprints/schematics.
- Vision requirement of 20/30 near correctable.
- Critical problem solving, Math and analytical ability.
- Experience using digital hardware and software up to and including minor programming
- Computer literacy is a must, including competency in general MS Office applications
- Requires sufficient strength and physical dexterity to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
- High school diploma or GED required; certification, formal training
