The Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing, managing, and analyzing tax-related matters to ensure federal, state, and local tax regulations compliance. This role involves tax planning, reporting, and providing strategic recommendations to minimize tax liabilities. The Tax Accountant will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to support the organization’s financial and regulatory objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities.
- Ensure timely submission of all tax filings and payments to avoid penalties.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to maintain compliance.
2. Tax Planning and Strategy
- Identify tax-saving opportunities and recommend strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Provide guidance on tax implications for business decisions, transactions, and investments.
- Assist in preparing forecasts and budgets related to tax obligations.
3. Tax Audits and Inquiries
- Manage tax audits, reviews, and examinations conducted by tax authorities.
- Respond to tax notices and inquiries promptly and accurately.
- Maintain proper documentation and records to support tax filings.
4. Financial Reporting
- Prepare tax provisions and disclosures for financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Reconcile tax accounts and ensure accurate representation in the general ledger.
5. Process Improvement
- Develop and maintain efficient tax processes and systems to improve accuracy and timeliness.
- Recommend and implement best practices in tax accounting and reporting.
6.Client/Stakeholder Communication (if applicable):
- Provide tax advisory services to clients or internal stakeholders
- Explain complex tax concepts in an understandable manner to non-financial personnel.
Skills and Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent certification (preferred).
- Master’s in Taxation or related field (optional but a plus).
Experience:
- 2 years of experience in tax accounting, public accounting, or a similar role.
- Experience with tax preparation software
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local tax codes and regulations.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP) and MS Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and tax provisions.
