The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing all aspects of tax compliance, including federal, state, and local filings, as well as providing support across the full accounting lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented professional with a proven track record of accuracy and efficiency, and a deep understanding of tax regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file federal, state, and local income tax returns, sales and use tax returns, and other required tax filings.
- Research and interpret tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify tax planning opportunities.
- Manage tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the company.
- Prepare quarterly and year-end tax provisions.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Assist with managing the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Perform general ledger maintenance and analysis.
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Assist with all other accounting life cycle functions, if applicable.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Develop and maintain internal controls and procedures.
- Provide support and training to junior accounting staff.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as needed.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus on tax.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations in a corporate setting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- CPA certification preferred.
- Master's degree is a plus.
- Experience with tax research software.
