Position Summary
The Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Coordinator works directly with populations that are at high-risk for acquiring HIV, to assist them in accessing Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, or PrEP. The PrEP Coordinator works closely with HIV Alliance’s STI testing clinic, the Testing Coordinator and Early Intervention Specialist to identify and reach out to high risk individuals. The PrEP Coordinator provides education and information to individuals interested in accessing PrEP, provides referrals to prescribing physicians, and works with the individual to identify and overcome barriers to accessing PrEP.
The PrEP Coordinator assists clients in accessing and enrolling in insurance programs, including but not limited to Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid), Medicare, and private insurance plans. This position provides HIV testing services, community education and conducts outreach to high risk populations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Client identification, outreach and engagement
Provide direct one-on-one and phone PrEP coordination services
Visit accompaniment services
Coordinating access to the on-site PrEP clinic to include scheduling clients in EHR system, scheduling follow-up appointments, and sending out consents, ROIs, and other paperwork for clinic access.
Provide appropriate referrals, including follow up and documentation
Advocate with medical providers as needed on behalf of our clients
Provide HIV testing
Maintain up-to-date HIV and PrEP knowledge and provide HIV and PrEP education to high-risk populations, professionals and community members, in a variety of settings
Maintain up to date pool of referrals for clients in our service area
Develop and strengthen relationships with service providers in our service areas
Maintain up to date information regarding prescription assistance programs
Participate in necessary meetings
Assist Director with all necessary reports
Other duties as defined by Director and program standards
Conduct outreach online, in community sex environments, and at LGBT-related events to gay and bisexual men, offering safer sex supplies and making referrals to our services
Assist Prevention Manager in planning community events
Acts as liaison and HIV prevention advocate to community groups and coalitions
Required Qualifications
1 year of experience with patient/client interaction
Self-manager/self-motivated
Ability to work with diverse populations
Knowledge of local and statewide social service providers
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Record-keeping & organizational skills
Comfortable discussing sex, drug use, and HIV/AIDS.
Knowledge of the unique issues affecting high-risk communities and willingness to learn about culturally relevant interventions for gay and bisexual men and people living with HIV/AIDS.
Attention to detail
Passion for working with: marginalized, underserved populations, people who inject drugs, sex workers, gay/bisexual men and other men who have sex with men, individuals engaging in behavior considered to be high-risk for HIV, gay/bisexual young men and young people who inject drugs.
Support of harm reduction philosophy and client-centered approach in prevention.
Comfortable handling safer injection and safer sex supplies.
Familiarity using Word, Excel, Microsoft Access, and Power Point.
Ability to work on a team successfully and effectively
Effective spokesperson and advocate – ability to negotiate and represent agency and importance of HIV/AIDS issues
Ability to build and maintain bridges between HIV Alliance and its clients, other non-profit agencies, governmental entities, key community stakeholders
Valid Oregon Driver's license, or valid out of state driver's license with the ability to get an Oregon Driver's license within 30 days of establishing residency in Oregon, and a driving record sufficient to be covered by agency auto insurance policy
TB test provided by the agency
Ability to pass agency criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications
One year experience working with marginalized, underserved populations
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work/Human Service or other related field or
2 years’ experience in social services.
Client-centered service experience
Experience working with clients who have substance abuse and/or mental health issues
Professional experience with or education on PrEP
Experience working in HIV Prevention or Care
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required
- Repetitive use of hands such as grasping, twisting/turning of wrists, and finger dexterity necessary to perform various clerical duties, such as typing and writing.
- Frequent use of arms such as pushing and pulling to open and close drawers and cabinets
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at an assigned station
- Ability to bend, stand, and reach to be able to transport clients and to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds (harm reduction kits, naloxone kits, testing and education materials)
- Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for processing of paperwork
