Data Center Manager
Location: Colorado Springs
Reporting to: Sr. Dir. of DC Operations
The Data Center Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations and managing the staff that supports data center activities including remote hands, customer and vendor access, related critical infrastructure, and business-critical processes and procedures essential for delivering customer products and services. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who demonstrates professionalism and is capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Experience in tasks ranging from racking and stacking servers to managing battery/power systems and structured cabling.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, meet deadlines, and maintain uptime.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to autonomously execute projects under customer direction (both written and verbal).
- Experience managing a remote workforce.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Oversees management of local and regional Data Center environments.
- Vendor and contract management for any agreements related to local and regional operations.
- Manages Security compliance within the Data Center.
- Ensures site SOC, ISO compliancy and participates in annual audits.
- Maintains database of all cross connects, power assignments, and cabling infrastructure.
- Supports delivery of data center services including colocation, telecommunications services, and deployment of additional services to customers and internal business systems.
- Maintain cleanliness, appearance, and organization of the Data Center in accordance with established procedures.
- Acts as a technical and operational contact for data center customers, vendors, and carriers as it relates to colocation, connectivity, and network products and services.
- Properly and efficiently install cabinets, networking equipment, PDU’s and servers as required.
- Installation and maintenance of fiber optic and ethernet cabling.
- Responsible for inbound/outbound shipments.
- Carries out and/or supervises remote hands tasks in accordance with established procedures.
- Conducts activities inside IT and telecommunications rooms or cabinets such as the installation of IT and network hardware, making or running patch cables, and verifying or testing cable paths.
- Coordinates and oversees access to and work within the facility with third-party contractors, vendors, and carriers related to structured cabling installation, circuit delivery and equipment installations in IT and telecommunications rooms and customer space.
- Maintains uptime of data center infrastructure and related systems.
- Responsible for overseeing installation, maintenance, and project management of power, cooling, battery, generator, fuel systems, bus bars, containment, raised floors, and other critical systems and infrastructure found within typical data center environments
- Supervises team of Technicians within one or more data center locations including time card tracking, time off approval, and on call reporting.
- Assists with planning, executing, and closing out work orders/tickets including sales engineering activities.
- Assists the leadership team in compiling, maintaining, prioritizing, and updating ongoing capital expenditures and financial forecasting specific to data center operations and site requirements.
- Attends and actively participate in all meetings.
- Monitors and responds to security, environmental, equipment monitoring system alerts, escalating as needed, and performs a root cause analysis for each occurrence.
Qualifications & Required Skills:
- 2 years of leadership experience in a data center environment.
- 5 years of experience working within a data center environment.
- Experience operating and supporting critical infrastructure including HVAC, UPS, ATS, and Generator systems.
- Familiarity with power calculations and related usage reporting.
- Fluent knowledge of structured cabling, testing, and labeling.
- Experience operating production and mission-critical networks and systems.
- Presents and conducts self in a professional manner; promotes a positive company image.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to lift material, IT servers and equipment in execution of the responsibilities and scope of work described, up to 50 lbs. overhead.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and be available to travel on site during afterhours emergencies.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
