SUMMARY

The VDC Manager is the design coordination leader of the project. Their responsibilities include planning, organizing and administering the design coordination with the design team as well as critical trade subcontractors. The VDC Manager proactively manages design conflict resolution in close coordination internally with the Project Manager and Superintendent as well as externally with the client, design team and subcontractors. The VDC Manager ensures timely and cost-effective execution design coordination scope set by the Project Manager through the proficient use of the tools provided by H.J. Russell & Company.

WHY THIS JOB IS IMPORTANT

The VDC Manager is responsible for defining, implementing, and executing the BIMxPlan. The VDC Manager will work closely with the PM to define the BIMxPlan and the schedule to complete it.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This role has the following key duties and responsibilities :

Client Development & Relationship Skills

  • Promote the growth and development of client and designer relationships.
  • Represent H.J. Russell & Company in a professional and positive manner.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with the client and design team contacts with solution-oriented and problem-solving focus.
  • Seek and identify new work opportunities and inform the PX or VP of potential projects with current and potential new clients.
  • Participate in interviews for new work and provide modeling and rendering support for the presentation.
  • Regularly participate in presentations to secure new work for H.J. Russell & Company.
  • Participate in industry-related organizations to network, improve personally and promote H.J. Russell & Company.
  • Interact with owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors with positive results.
  • Communicate professionally in all verbal and written communications.
  • Treat everyone with respect and be fair in working with the client, design team and subcontractors while protecting H.J. Russell & Company's interests.

Safety

  • Work with the PM and Superintendent ensure the design coordination supports the Project Specific Safety Plan.
  • Exhibit a safe personal behavior that demonstrates our commitment to safely return all workers home every day.
  • Contracts & Risk

  • Maintain a knowledge of key project Contract terms, especially those in relationship to the BIMxPlan.
  • Immediately communicate coordination or scope gap issues to the PM, especially those that could affect cost and / or schedule.
  • Design Coordination

  • Establish the BIMxPlan objectives, procedures and standards with the PM.
  • Clearly communicate the BIMxPlan to all stakeholders.
  • Plan and lead all BIMxPlan coordination meetings.
  • Generate and maintain a consistent sense of urgency throughout the design coordination process.
  • Provide the field staff with digital layout and visuals so they can plan, execute and backcheck the work with greater accuracy.
  • Keep current on technology trends and suggest refinements to VDC process.
  • Provide technology assistance to the project team.
  • Take an active role in the professional development for team members.
  • Financial

  • Assist the preconstruction manager with budgeting recommended VDC scopes.
  • Track time and cost related to the budget. Seek to stay under budget or notify the PM of the additional cost when additional scope is requested.
  • Account for time associated with each project worked on and work with each project's PM to ensure their cost is allocated correctly.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the project BIMxPlan. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with H.J. Russell & Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising personnel performance with the VP; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree (B. A., B.S. or B. Arch.) in Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction or Business Management from four-year (five-year in Architecture) college or university; or ten to fifteen years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Registration as an Architect or Engineering would bring added value and credibility to an individual in this position but is not required to fill this position.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    Training and prior production experience with Primavera P3, Expedition, CMAS, Microsoft Foxpro (or comparable database software), and Microsoft Word (or comparable word-processing software).

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to extreme cold. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate or loud.
