We are currently seeking a Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) for one of our esteemed non-profit clients. This is an exciting leadership role where you will play a critical part in financial strategy, compliance, and decision-making.
Position Overview
As the Chief Accounting Officer, you will oversee financial operations, including cash flow planning, budget management, and financial reporting. You will work closely with senior leadership to ensure financial stability and strategic growth. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented leader with expertise in risk management and forecasting.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Oversee all accounting and financial reporting for the organization and its affiliates.
✅ Develop and monitor the annual operating budget (~$20M) in collaboration with department heads.
✅ Supervise cash flow management and ensure financial sustainability.
✅ Forecast funding needs for future programs and initiatives.
✅ Provide key stakeholders with financial insights and investment strategies.
✅ Ensure compliance with federal and state financial regulations.
✅ Present monthly and annual financial statements to executives and the board.
✅ Lead and manage external audit activities.
✅ Supervise and mentor a team of 7 accounting professionals.
✅ Oversee operations of the organization’s bookstore, with reports from the Senior Accountant.
Qualifications & Skills
✔️ Proven experience as an Accounting Manager, Director of Finance, or Chief Accounting Officer, preferably in a non-profit organization.
✔️ Strong knowledge of data analysis, risk management, and forecasting.
✔️ Hands-on experience with accounting and financial management software (e.g., SAP).
✔️ Advanced Excel proficiency.
✔️ Ability to communicate financial concepts in simple, clear terms.
✔️ Familiarity with non-profit financial structures and compliance.
✔️ CPA certification required; MBA preferred.
✔️ Passion for the mission and values of non-profit work.
