Summary:
This role requires expertise in high-voltage (HV) electrical systems, particularly in plant utilities for large-scale manufacturing. You will manage and maintain electrical utility equipment, including HV systems, substations, and distribution networks. A background with utility companies and experience in substation operations is essential to ensure power reliability for battery manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the operation, maintenance, and upgrades of medium-voltage substations and utility infrastructure supporting large-scale production
- Oversee and troubleshoot plant-wide power distribution systems such as Busway and panel board, ensuring reliable supply for critical battery manufacturing processes
- Collaborate with external utility companies to ensure optimal power delivery and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Develop and execute comprehensive maintenance plans for plant electrical systems and utility equipment to minimize downtime in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations
- Implement efficiency-enhancing projects and upgrades for power systems, including voltage regulation, surge & protection schemes, phase loss prevention. Prepare engineering specifications for bid invitation, evaluate, and perform bid evaluation and conformed bid evaluations for purchase related to ongoing preventative maintenance activities
- Provide rapid troubleshooting and repair for MV&LV-related issues, minimizing disruptions to operations
- Perform energy audits, energy usage calculations, and circuit analysis for critical loads throughout the plant. Visit construction areas to determine compliance with design intent, reporting discrepancies, errors and omissions and utilizes this input to update standards, processes, and procedures
- Discuss de-energization schedule with process Engineer during various electrical panelboard modification
- Modify the Utility Matrix and Process specification drawing to maintain current electrical system drawings (one-line). Analyze and validate energy cost savings initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5 years of experience in HV systems, plant utility electrical operations, or substation engineering.
- Strong background with utility companies and large-scale electrical infrastructure.
- Expertise in substation equipment (switchgear, transformers) and protection systems.
- Knowledge of SCADA and PLC-based systems. Some programming experience preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical safe work practices and industry codes (OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584)
Skills:
- Proficiency in high-voltage systems and substation maintenance
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills for HV & LV systems
- Effective collaboration with utility providers and internal teams
- Ability to mentor junior engineers to enhance the overall department knowledge and efficiency
- Ability to interface with multiple engineering disciplines
- Proficiency in written and verbal Korean strongly preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in industrial environments using appropriate PPE for industry and electrical areas
- Capable of working with heavy electrical equipment while adhering to safety standards
