Job Purpose:
Primary technical interface between Mando and customer. Lead the negotiation, planning, execution and reporting of validation (DV/PV) testing on braking components (calipers, EMB, drum brakes, master cylinder, boosters or vacuum-less boost products).
Job Description:
The main responsibilities for the position include (but are not restricted to):
- Business hunting activities: coordinate efforts and work with multifunctional team (Design, Manufacturing and Sales) on creating competitive product proposals to win important business that is in Mando’s business plan;
- Customer Requirement Analysis: working together with multifunctional team, coordinating efforts to complete requirement analysis and respond to customer, complying with the requirements that can be met and negotiating exceptions for the ones that cannot be met. The Product Engineer, Application is responsible for covering Systems aspects.
- Technical Review: collaborate with design engineer and coordinate efforts to prepare material and support technical review with customer. Support design engineer in obtaining customer information (packaging environment) for product design and packaging. Keep track and update the team regarding packaging changes occurring from the customer side.
- Program timing: create, maintain and track program timing, for the engineering deliverables, and work with PM on supporting manufacturing deliverables for the program.
- Program open issues and PDT meetings: create, track and maintain open issues list and collaborate with PM and the team on efforts to close open issues. Raise the flag, before-hand, for all open issues that don’t have a planned solution. Schedule and lead PDT meetings with the customer.
- Gate reviews: collaborate with PM and the team contributing to efforts to collect information needed for each gate review and approval, with help and support from the design engineer. Raise flag, before-hand, for each potential issue or road block.
- Program Development Process: coordinate, track and lead efforts to complete all phases of the Product Development Process (APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, KPC definition, etc).
- Prototype builds: plan and coordinate all prototype builds, with help and collaboration from design engineer, test coordinator and program manager.
- DV and PV Planning and Reporting: lead DV and PV activities, with support from design engineer, PM and technicians. Write DVP&R and track execution. Discuss results with design engineer (design engineer is responsible for the technical countermeasures). Present and discuss results with customers and negotiate timing for countermeasure implementation.
- Manufacturing and launch support: lead the multifunctional team to support plant efforts during manufacturing reviews, trials and documentation (control plans, operation sheets, flow charts, capability studies, ISIR and PPAP documentation).
- Lessons learned: continually lead efforts to capture lessons learned and support corrective actions to prevent re-occurrences.
Qualifications:
Minimum of bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
Technical Competencies:
Approximately of 5-15 years of experience automotive product engineering experience working in product development environment with OEM customer interaction and preferred focus on braking components (calipers, EMB, drum brakes, master cylinder, boosters or vacuum-less boost products). Must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills and be able to connect academic knowledge with practical problems. Brake system sizing experience is a plus. MS Office literacy is required. Visual Basic programing and ability to create macros in MS Office is a plus.
