Position Overview:

As a Lead Detailer at HME, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the impeccable quality and presentation of our fire trucks before they are delivered to our valued customers. You will be responsible for meticulously inspecting, cleaning, and detailing the fire trucks, ensuring that they meet our high standards of excellence and safety. Your attention to detail and commitment to delivering first-rate products will contribute to our mission of providing lifesaving equipment to firefighters and emergency response teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thorough Inspection: Conduct detailed inspections of completed fire trucks to identify cosmetic issues and make note of any mechanical or functional issues that need to be addressed before delivery.
  • Cleaning and Detailing: Perform extensive cleaning, polishing, and detailing of all external and internal components of the fire trucks, including the body, compartments, equipment, and interiors
  • Repairing: Complete repairs on minor paint defects (i.e. scratches, dings, dents, chips) as well as damage to stainless steel surfaces (i.e. scratches and gouges). This will include sanding, buffing, and paint touch-up (where applicable).
  • Inventory Management: Facilitate and track cleaning product inventory, and when necessary, work with appropriate team members to place product on order.
  • Cosmetic Enhancement: Utilize various cleaning agents, tools, and techniques to enhance the appearance of the fire trucks, ensuring a professional and pristine finish.
  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality control team to address any identified issues.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of each fire truck's condition, work performed, and any issues identified, providing accurate documentation for internal records and customer reports.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all safety features, emergency equipment, and firefighting tools are properly secured, functional, and meet required industry standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as manufacturing, and quality control, to address any identified issues and streamline the finalization process.
  • Time Management: Adhere to production schedules and deadlines, ensuring that completed fire trucks are ready for delivery within established time frames.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process improvement initiatives by suggesting ways to enhance the detailing process for increased efficiency and higher quality outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in automotive detailing or related field is a plus.
  • 1-2 years experience as an Automotive Detailer (include body repair knowledge of sanding/ buffing/paint).
  • 1-2 years in a Lead type role (leading a team towards an end goal)
  • Proven experience in automotive, heavy equipment, or specialized vehicle detailing
    • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
    • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and report findings accurately.
    • Physical capability to perform tasks that involve bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces.

General Physical Requirements:

  • Light to moderate work – required to exert up to 30 lbs. of force regularly up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally
  • Working Conditions: this position is subject to an inside working environment and will be exposed to:
    • noise - loud, sharp, extended, impulse; up to, and occasionally more than, 85dBA (which may use of hearing protection,)
    • vibration - directed to hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders from the use of electric and pneumatic (impact) hand tools of varying sizes
    • hazards – electric current; oils and lubricants; moving mechanical parts; chemical cleaners and solvents; sharp edges on stainless steel and other components and metal shavings airborne dust, occasional intense light from welding in work area or adjacent work areas; working on elevated platforms, ladders, and scaffolds
  • Physical Activities, Ergonomic Considerations: this position may be exposed to:
  • standing, walking for majority of work shift
  • reaching in any direction, above and below shoulder level
  • lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • performing work in a crouched, squatting, kneeling, or stooped position (body bent forward and down from waist) for extended periods of time
  • crawling under trucks and truck chassis and performing precision work while laying prone or crouched with arms raised upwards, for extended periods
  • repetitive grasping, pinching with fingers; repetitive pulling, pushing, twisting of wrists, elbows, and shoulders
  • balancing while on an elevated platform, ladder, or scaffold and having the ability to step up to work surfaces up to 26 inches in height.
