ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Managerial Duties
- Essentially you will be running a small business with a deeply rooted customer base and backing of ownership
- The majority of your time will be spent coaching, supervising and directing the team; making operational and staffing decisions while ensuring HMS quality service
- Ensure sufficient staffing levels to meet the needs of the store
- Recruit, train, develop and motivate staff
- Reinforce training periodically
- Develop strong vendor relations and be active in price negotiation or buy ins
- Maintain a clean environment for customers and staff
- Ensure all aisle and coolers are stock at all times
- Maintain efficient flow and appearance of sales floor
- Identify and resolve sales obstacles
- Identify and problems resolve any HR Issues
- Make efficient scheduling depending on peak times
- Aid in ensuring prompt reconciliation of store operations paperwork
- Oversee daily store operations in all facets
- Develop successful sales plans to grow profitability
- Demonstrate leadership and promote a teamwork-oriented environment setting high standards and modeling behavior for optimum customer service
- Implement new product lines and create strategies to introduce and promote them to our customers
- Ensure product mix and inventory levels are properly maintained to increase sales and control inventory
- Maintain safety and security of the store, properly documenting any incidents that occur
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws within the scope of the grocery store operation
Provide superior customer service
- Greet customers with a friendly smile and provide them with prompt, courteous service.
- Offer extra assistance and handle any customer comments, complaints, or suggestions as instructed by management.
- Develop and maintain customer relationships by recognizing your regular customers as well as newcomers, learning their names, and remembering their favorite items.
Store tasks & responsibilities
- Complete specific tasks as assigned by the store supervisor or owner/manager.
- Observe shift operating hours at all times and follow the work schedule
- Accept responsibility for controlling the inventory and company assets on your shifts.
- Price, stock, and rotate products, as well as check code dates.
- Perform inventory counts on departments assigned by supervisors.
- Complete the daily shift checkout and paperwork.
- Maintain store cleanliness standards both inside and outside the facility.
- Assist in ensuring all store equipment is functioning properly and receiving proper preventative maintenance checks.
- Follow proper safety techniques/guidelines and encourage others to do the same.
- Clean fuel dispensers as required if on site.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the previously listed essential duties satisfactorily. In addition, the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, ability, and/or personal characteristics required for a qualified Store Manager.
Experience:
- High School diploma (or equivalent) is preferred. Two (2) year degree or above is strongly preferred.
- At least 1-3 years of experience as a Manager; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Desire to be part of a performance-driven team
- Prior successful grocery management experience
- Demonstrated effective training, coaching and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work flexible work schedule including days, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call
- Proven customer services skills
Mathematical skills:
- Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations at the 12th - grade level.
Language skills:
- Must be able to speak, read, understand, and write the English language at the 12th-grade level.
Physical skills & abilities:
- Must be able to enter and work in a cooler at the temperature of 30°(or below) for extended periods of time
- Must be able to stretch and reach and to stand for a minimum of eight hours at a time.
- Must be able to lift and stock cases of (beverages and petroleum) products that can weigh up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must be able to reliably get to and from work.
Personal characteristics:
- Must be able to work alone, as well as with others.
- Must have good personal hygiene.
- Must be dependable, including reporting for work on time.
- Must have high levels of integrity and honesty.
- Must be safety conscious and flexible (able to adapt to change).
- Must be able to work the days and hours required, based on the demands of business and the store.
