Responsibilities
- Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations.
- Design substations utilizing applicable codes and client standards (if available). Typical design to include general arrangement, equipment and electrical layout, elevation views, cable trench, grounding, conduit drawings, details, bills of material, and AC and DC power systems
- Selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling .
- Complete conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning studies.
- Design ground grids based on applicable codes utilizing industry available software.
- Perform field visits to verify the latest set of existing design drawings match the “station” drawings and perform field condition assessments.
- Performing site visits with clients’s operational, engineering and construction personnel to discuss design considerations
- Provide construction support as needed throughout project durations.
- Plan and coordinate a Conceptual/MOL [Main One Line] and Final design review meetings
- Conduct Design Review Meeting and document minutes.
- Occasional travel will be required.
Required Education/Experience
- BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) degree, from an accredited university, preferably with a power option.
- Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
- Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
- Ten (10) or more years of experience in utility substation design as outlined above.
- The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
- Masters in Electrical Engineering and/or Professional Engineering license (PE) is a plus.
- Managerial and leadership skills a plus.
