Position Description
Participates as member of the surgical team under direct supervision of an RN/Charge Nurse or Clinical Manager. Functions in the role of scrub/assist person and assisting physician and/or RN (Registered Nurse). Responsible for direct and indirect care of patients. Assists with maintenance, care of instruments, supplies and equipment according to the manufacturers’ instructions, standards of infection prevention, and institutional policies/procedures. Practices appropriate initiation and maintenance of sponge, needle and miscellaneous item counts and equipment according to policy. Decontaminates, cleans, and cares for operating room equipment utilizing clean/sterile technique used in a procedural setting. Identifies, gathers, and prepares instruments and equipment and specialty items for all procedures in a timely manner according to preference card. Acknowledges physiologic needs for the patient (size of equipment, maintenance of body temperature and patient safety). May require on call duty. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Scrub Technician program or equivalent military medical core training.
- Solid computer technical skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and additional Organizational systems (Affinity, SMS, and PACS).
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year of recent OR experience.
- Bilingual or multilingual.
- Surgical Technologist Certification (CST), NBSTSA.
License or Certification
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $29.57 per hour.

Unit Description
The Operating Room at Hoag Newport Beach consists of a total of 18 OR’s, three dedicated Cardiac Rooms (including one hybrid room) that are home to six XI Robots, and two state of the art fully integrated Neuro-Spine Rooms. We offer some of the newest technology available including HIPEC, Surgical Theater and the Intuitive Ion. You will serve a diverse patient population including adults and geriatrics with a small number of pediatrics all of whom require surgical intervention.
Surgical services include Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, General, Gynecology, EENT (eyes, ears, nose, and throat), Colorectal, Plastics, Hepatobiliary, Thoracic, Vascular and Urology. We offer both outpatient and inpatient surgeries in multiple specialties with acuity levels ranging from healthy to elective and or emergent to critical and end of life. We staff our operating room 24/7 with a dedicated night team. We are a Magnet facility and were one of the first hospitals in California to receive the Magnet designation over 16 years ago. Our OR was also awarded CNOR strong for 2020.
