Position: Project Engineer – Civil (Water, Wastewater, Water Reuse)
Salary Range: $105k - $143k DOQ
Background
Hoch Consulting is currently seeking a highly motivated and innovative Project Engineer to join our team. Key duties include project management, drafting, permit support, design of pipelines, pump stations, and treatment works, preparation of specification & cost estimates, staff and client coordination, and construction management and inspection support. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and ambitious, possessing excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills that will allow the candidate to engage in a variety of projects and to collaborate with employees and project partners at all levels.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management
· Collect data required to assist with the preparation of cost estimates, schedules, reports, RFPs, SOW’s, and other project documentation; provide recommendations and prepare documents in support of project goals.
· Research codes, guidance, policies, procedures, processes, criteria and Federal laws and regulations and provide sound technical recommendations.
· Perform field investigations, review as-builts, and determine existing conditions; document and report findings & observations to include data collected.
· Assist others with preparation of staff reports, presentations, and other administrative documentation in support of the projects.
· Assist with budget maintenance and invoice drafting.
Engineering & Design
· Assist others with preparation of engineering analyses and calculations. Update analyses and calculations throughout the project progression.
· Help develop contract drawings under the direction of a licensed professional engineer. Development may include drafting and/or design using AutoCAD and/or Microstation.
· Help prepare contract specifications applicable to the client’s preferences and project needs.
· Prepare exhibits to convey engineering and design principles to clients, managers, and the public.
· Help develop reports to convey engineering and design concepts and philosophies.
· Perform special projects, as needed.
Construction Management & Inspection
· Act as the “information hub” to ensure continuity and coordination of work.
· Responsible for reviewing Request for Information (RFI) and submittals.
· Prepare and execute potential change orders, including time extensions.
· Maintain critical project logs (submittals, RFIs, change order, etc.)
· Inspect all work to assure compliance with plans and specifications.
· Develop progress reports.
· Manage project schedule and other project controls.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s OR master’s degree in civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering with 5 years of civil engineering experience. Basic project management skills, including the ability to manage tasks for technically complex projects utilizing local and remotely located personnel with specialized skills. Experience with planning, design, and/or technical analysis with water/wastewater projects – including but not limited to pipelines, pump stations, wastewater treatment, and water treatment – is highly desired. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare project reports, and summarize engineering and model analyses in concise understandable language is desired. An EIT certification or equivalent is required with a PE or in-progress PE highly desired.
