Our company has been in business for 30 years, the current owner has run the company for the last 20 years.

Our base: A 2-acre private garden center in Barnegat, NJ

  • 25% Installations (privacy plantings, flower/vegetable gardens, shade trees, irrigation, lighting)
  • 65% Maintenance (Spring cleanup, Summer maintenance, Fall cleanup)

Role Overview

As our Horticulture & Design Manager, you will oversee plant selection, installation, healthcare, and landscape design while working closely with our team and clients. This is a hands-on leadership role with a mix of horticultural activitiesincluding, plant management, design, customer interaction, and fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities

Horticultural Responsibilities

  • Manage plant material in our nursery
  • Order and receive plants and landscaping materials
  • Source and select the best plant material for installations
  • Oversee our “Give Back Garden” vegetable garden

Landscaping & Design Responsibilities

  • Design and assist in selling landscape installations and services
  • Ensure proper installation of plant material alongside crews
  • Oversee plant healthcare, including disease/pest identification
  • Manage client vegetable & flower gardens

Team Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and team members
  • Be punctual, hardworking, and dedicated to the company’s success
  • Help maintain a positive and professional work environment

Experience & Education Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in the landscaping industry (gardening, plant care, installation and maintenance)
  • 2 years of education in horticulture or a related field (preferred)
  • General understanding of horticulture, plant material, landscaping and design.
  • Knowledge of coastal landscaping (NJ-specific, preferred)
  • Pesticide Applicator License (preferred) or willingness to obtain
  • Plant healthcare expertise (preferred) – disease and pest identification/treatment

Physical & Technical RequirementsPhysical Demands

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in various conditions
  • Willingness to physically assist landscaping crews as needed

Technical Skills

  • Strong computer proficiency (typing, spreadsheets, basic word processing)
  • Ability to learn and adapt to industry-specific software

Work Schedule

Spring: Monday–Friday, 7 AM–5 PM (some Saturdays)

Summer: Monday–Friday, 7 AM–5 PM (very few Saturdays)

Fall: Monday–Friday, 7 AM–5 PM

Winter: Flexible hours (mix of time off & season preparation)

Major Holidays: Off

Salary & Benefits:

Salary: $55,000–$85,000 (based on experience & education)

Pay: $55,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
