Position Title: Detention Officer Department: Detention
Reports To: Sergeant

Position Summary: Ensure minimum compliance with agency policy and operates in compliance with Texas Commission on Jail Standards regulations
Essential Job Functions:
- Report to work as scheduled and in proper condition to perform daily assignments
- Oversee security of inmates, inmate activities throughout shift, and report issues to supervisors
- Ensure all paperwork is properly completed and submitted to supervisor for review
- Complete necessary reports, time checks, and security checks of the detention facility
- Ensure compliance with agency policy and Texas Commission on Jail Standards regulations
- Seek out and complete continuing education and training opportunities
- Any other duties as assigned by a supervisor, the Sheriff, or his designee
Education:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency required
Experience:
- Must possess valid Jailers License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement or the ability to obtain permanent licensure within one (1) year of employment.
Required Skills:
- Must possess Managerial Skills and Organizational Skills
- Ability to read, write and understand English language; Bi-Lingual Preferred
- Ability to see potential deficiencies and create policies to correct said deficiencies
Preferred Skills:
- Basic Computer Skills
- Ability to remain calm and seek solutions to a variety of problems
- Ability to communicate with people of varied Ethnic and Educational backgrounds
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work any and all shifts and any and all days of the week sometimes on short notice
