If you enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, and making a difference behind the scenes, the Hockomock Area YMCA is hiring a Facilities Assistant to help maintain our buildings and grounds to the highest standards. The Facilities Assistant works collaboratively with Facilities staff and leadership to diagnose, service, repair, and maintain equipment and facilities, all while providing exceptional customer service to staff and members. This role involves frequent interaction with members, staff, and contractors, making a positive and personable attitude essential.
Available Shifts:
- Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Additional Scheduling Details:
- On-call weekend and holiday shifts are required on a rotating basis, shared among all Facilities Assistants and the Assistant Facilities Director.
- On-call shifts are paid as overtime if they result in more than 40 hours in a workweek.
- Depending on project needs or emergencies, occasional night and weekend work may be required.
- All night and weekend shifts will be scheduled in advance, with workweek adjustments to ensure total hours do not exceed 40.
Essential Functions
- Perform general maintenance and repairs at assigned locations, including drywall, painting, doors, locks, and building fixtures.
- Maintain facility grounds to YMCA standards, including exterior upkeep not covered by contractors (e.g., snow removal, lawn care, painting).
- Communicate with and oversee contractors when professional repairs are needed.
- Complete tasks independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Take initiative by actively owning projects, staying proactive, and anticipating potential issues.
- Seek opportunities to improve facilities and drive projects forward.
- Regularly access, update, and maintain email, virtual calendars, and Facilities Lists reports.
- Order and stock supplies to ensure facility needs are met.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines at all times.
- Set up rooms and facilities for on-site and off-site functions.
- Inspect, identify, and service equipment or machinery in need of repair.
- Troubleshoot issues and determine necessary repair actions.
- Perform routine maintenance on building systems.
- Implement preventative maintenance programs in line with established standards.
- Adhere to all YMCA and brand standards.
- Assist with cleaning and general facility upkeep.
- Support driving duties as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Prior experience in building maintenance or general construction preferred.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Personable, professional attitude with a strong work ethic.
- Reliable and dependable, with consistent transportation.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
- Basic technology skills or a willingness to learn user-friendly applications such as Outlook for email, calendars, and task lists.
- For new YMCA staff: A pre-placement health screening is required after a contingent job offer and verbal acceptance to ensure fitness for essential job functions.
