What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gymnastics Summer Camp Counselor position at Hockomock Young Men's Christian Association, Inc?
The Gymnastic Summer Camp Counselor teaches preschool and school-age gymnastics programs while also infusing traditional camp activities into the gymnastics program. This position is responsible for creating a positive, safe, engaging, and progressive environment for all participants.
This is a seasonal position, working 20-40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, while Gymnastics Camp is in session.
Essential Functions
- Follows all guidelines in regards to child protection, including keeping accurate attendance of campers through periodic face checks and refraining from the use of cell phones
- Follows progressive gymnastics lessons
- Actively takes part in the teaching process, including stretch, circuit work, spotting, and conditioning
- Actively takes part in the traditional camp experience, including camper’s choice, games, songs, swim, and other camp activities
- Performs additional duties, as needed, including tracking of events, preparing crafts, dance, or other as specified
- Maintains facility and equipment, reporting all concerns to supervisor
- Serves as a role model to campers, engaging with each participant with enthusiasm, nurturing the self-esteem of all campers and staff, and demonstrating the YMCA core values (honesty, respect, responsibility, caring)
- Contributes to a positive branch and department culture
- Follows all approved guidelines, policies, procedures, and practices set by the camp directors and the YMCA
- Attends all scheduled staff meetings and mandatory trainings
- Is prepared for each camp day with a staff shirt, swimsuit, towel, and a SMILE
