Garden Center Manager
Pay Rate: $65,000-$85,000 with potential for performance-based bonuses.

Position Overview:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate, and energetic Garden Center Manager to lead our team, oversee the daily retail operations and create an exceptional customer experience. This role is perfect for “plant nerds” who have a passion for gardening and horticulture, and most importantly, serving and connecting with customers, have a background in retail management, with exceptional customer service skills. As the Garden Center Manager, you will ensure our customers receive expert advice, friendly service, and enjoy a welcoming environment, all while leading a motivated and knowledgeable team.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer-Focused Leadership:
Inspire and lead a team that shares a love for gardening and delivering outstanding customer service.
Engage with customers in a warm, friendly, and approachable manner, offering expert advice and recommendations.
Address customer concerns promptly, ensuring every interaction is a positive and helpful experience.
Foster a positive atmosphere where customers feel valued and supported in their gardening journey.
Lead, train, and motivate staff to provide excellent customer service and achieve sales goals.
Ensure the garden center is well-organized, clean, and visually appealing to customers.
Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues or complaints in a professional manner.
Daily Operations:
Manage the day-to-day activities of the garden center and gift shop, ensuring it’s clean, organized, and stocked with quality products.
Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with suppliers to restock products as needed.
Maintain knowledge of gardening techniques, and plant care to assist customers effectively.
Maintain knowledge of trends in giftware and home décor.
Ensure a well-maintained and visually appealing store that encourages customers to explore and return.
Oversee the receiving, stocking, and pricing of inventory, keeping track of product availability.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead by example, bringing energy and positivity to motivate the team, and creating a culture of collaboration and respect.
Provide ongoing training to team members on customer service, product knowledge, and sales techniques.
Offer constructive feedback and encouragement to help your team grow and succeed.
Develop team schedules to ensure the garden center is adequately staffed, especially during busy seasons.
Sales & Customer Engagement:
Develop and implement sales strategies to increase revenue and promote seasonal products.
Drive sales through effective promotions, in-store displays, and personalized customer interactions.
Work with our marketing team to generate attractive content for marketing initiatives and social media campaigns.
Promote seasonal products, gardening tips, and services to engage customers and build loyalty.
Plan and create fun, educational experiences such as workshops or plant care demos and networking events to build community relationships.
Inventory & Stock Management:
Monitor inventory levels and ensure the garden center is fully stocked with high-quality plants, gardening products and bulk products.
Work closely with suppliers to order and receive new stock in a timely manner.
Monitor the health of plants and ensure proper care in store to guarantee customer satisfaction.
Health, Safety & Environmental Stewardship:
Ensure adherence to health and safety standards, including safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
Promote eco-friendly practices within the garden center and encourage customers to adopt sustainable gardening methods.
Required Qualifications:
A deep passion for plants, gardening, and creating positive customer experiences.
Prior experience (2 years) in retail, customer service, or garden center management.
Outstanding communication skills and the ability to build rapport with customers and staff.
A positive attitude, enthusiasm, and the energy to lead by example.
A strong sense of ownership and responsibility in delivering exceptional service.
Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a cheerful and friendly demeanor.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of horticulture or gardening (formal qualifications are a plus but not required).
Experience with point-of-sale systems and inventory management.
Ability to engage customers in meaningful conversations and offer personalized advice.
Working Conditions:
Full-time role with flexibility for weekend and holiday shifts.
