Description
Hofstra University seeks an exceptional leader to serve as Assistant/Associate Vice President for Student Health, Wellbeing, and Campus Support Services (AVP). This pivotal role calls for a dynamic, collaborative, and forward-thinking individual to oversee a broad spectrum of student support service programs including health, wellness, career, and compliance-related departments, ensuring high-quality, accessible, and inclusive programs and services. The AVP will serve as a visionary strategist dedicated to enhancing student support and wellbeing initiatives while playing a central role as a senior leader in the university’s commitment to fostering a thriving and supportive campus community.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success at Hofstra, Jessica Eads, the AVP is a member of the Enrollment and Engagement leadership team and participates in setting strategic direction for the division; anticipating and responding to opportunities and challenges; managing resources; formulating policy; and developing key relationships with academic and administrative colleagues. Student health, wellbeing, and campus support services are guided by an inclusive and integrated service model, promoting collaboration and communication across all areas through programs and services that advance a holistically oriented, health-promoting, and student-centered campus culture.
The AVP will oversee key departments, including: Student Access Services, Student Health Services, Student Counseling Services, Health Promotion and Wellness Education, Career Services, Title IX Office and Campus Recreation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide Strategic Vision: The AVP will be a senior leader on campus, serving as an authority on a broad range of student wellbeing, career development, and compliance-related issues. The AVP will articulate a compelling vision for student success, holistic health, and equitable support services, ensuring a student-centered approach in decision-making, program development, and policy implementation.
  • Career Services: The AVP will oversee the Career Services team to develop innovative programs that support career exploration, internships, employer partnerships, and post-graduation employment opportunities. The AVP will ensure that career readiness is a key component of the student experience, working closely with faculty, alumni, and industry partners to strengthen professional development opportunities. Meaningful career pathways contribute to students’ sense of purpose, mental health and post-graduation success, reinforcing a holistic approach to student support.
  • Title IX Office: The AVP will collaborate with the Title IX Coordinator for Student Issues and campus partners to develop and implement programs that promote a safe, inclusive and supportive campus environment and serve as the key liaison between health and wellness services, human resources and the Title IX Coordinator to ensure a coordinated response to student needs. Furthermore, the AVP will ensure compliance with Title IX regulations by assisting in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and training programs.
  • Student Health & Student Counseling Services: The Student Health Center provides comprehensive medical and wellness services to support the health and well-being of students. Open 7 days a week, the Student Health Center offers confidential, high-quality care, including primary medical services, preventive health screenings, immunizations, mental health referrals, and health education programs. Committed to fostering a healthy campus community, the Student Health Center works collaboratively with various departments to promote student success and well-being. Services are accessible to all enrolled students, ensuring they receive the necessary support to thrive academically and personally.
  • Student Counseling Services: Student Counseling Services provides quality mental health interventions that enhance well-being and offer students a more meaningful and successful college experience. Collaborative partnerships are developed to assist students in making essential connections within the Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success and greater University community.
  • Student Access Services: The AVP will oversee Student Access Services, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act., and fostering a campus culture that prioritizes student success. The AVP will work closely with campus stakeholders to provide support services, education, and training in alignment with best practices, legal mandates, and Hofstra’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
  • Campus Recreation: The Department of Campus Recreation offers a wide variety of sport activities, fitness programs, and recreational facilities for the entire campus community. The department collaborates with the entire University community and offers inclusive, diversified recreational programs, along with premier facilities, that encourage active participation and engagement in both a formal and informal setting.
  • Foster Partnerships and Enhance Operational Effectiveness: The AVP will develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, healthcare providers, employers, and legal professionals, to advance student wellbeing, career success, and compliance standards. They will ensure the effective use of resources, optimize service delivery models, and continuously assess program effectiveness.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree required.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience overseeing complex student support services, demonstrating an ability to manage health, career, and compliance-related programs in a higher education setting or similar.
  • Extensive experience in supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusive and accessible health and student support services.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Proficiency in crisis management, student support, and strategic planning within a university setting.
  • Expertise in relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to student wellbeing, career development, and Title IX compliance, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop staff, form an effective leadership team, and lead cross-functional collaborations.
  • Strong financial and operational management skills, including budget oversight and resource allocation.
  • A record that demonstrates the highest degree of integrity, transparency, honesty, and ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information.
  • Ability to work after hours and/or weekends as needed as well as respond to on campus emergencies when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education, Law, Medicine or a related field, strongly preferred.

Salary/Salary Range
$215,000 - $225,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.

  • Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
