Description
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations, the Associate Director of Stewardship and Annual Giving is responsible for oversight of all stewardship activities and mid-level annual giving and develops long and short-range planning to support the larger development goals of the Law School. The Associate Director will facilitate donor-centered stewardship that deepens relationships, binds donors to Hofstra Law, and inspires future gifts. This role offers the opportunity to apply creative and critical thinking skills to aid the law school’s efforts to thank and provide stewardship to all donors and volunteers. The successful candidate will ensure that donor acknowledgments and stewardship initiatives, including stewardship events, are executed in a way that fully demonstrates gratitude, communicates the impact of donors’ investment, and recognizes the donor’s relationship with Hofstra Law. The Associate Director develops a mix of personal solicitation and communications strategies focused on fostering a sustainable tradition of annual support for Hofstra Law. The Associate Director manages a portfolio of donors who have the capacity to give annually and builds strategies for acquiring, renewing and moving these donors to higher giving levels to build the donor pipeline to major gifts. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations, the Associate Director develops strategic and tactical plans for achieving annual giving goals. Must be available to work evenings and occasional weekends as needed.

- Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations to develop and execute an overall strategy for all donor stewardship activities, including a regular system of personalized letters for gift acknowledgement, congratulatory, in sympathy; thank you calls, emails, notes, videos, etc., from the dean, the associate dean, school leadership, faculty, and students.
- Participates in student scholarship awarding activities; prepares and sends notifications to donors regarding recipients. Facilitates touch points between scholarship donors and students.
- Provides appropriate stewardship for endowment holders, including creating reports.
- Devises a menu of programmatic initiatives for recognizing donors of societies, scholarships, and volunteers. Working with the Senior Director of Event Management and Director of Alumni Relations, plans and executes one-off and annual events like dedications, chair inaugurations, volunteer appreciation, society recognitions, and annual scholarship donor appreciation event.
- Responds to donor inquiries with accurate and timely information.
- Creates and manages an annual calendar of stewardship activities.
- Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications department to ensure that all stewardship outreach initiatives are coordinated and clearly communicated.
- Documents constituent contacts and volunteer engagements in donor database.
- Manages a prospect pool for fundraising ($5,000-$25,000) with annual goals for personal solicitations, visits, and giving outcomes.
- Develops strategy and creates compelling campaigns for the Law School’s mid-level giving program to drive giving throughout the year.
- Creates, develops, and manages a highly effective and sustainable volunteer component in support of mid-level giving.
- Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications department to ensure that all outreach initiatives for mid-level giving campaigns are coordinated and clearly communicated.
- Collaborates with the Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving and partners with the Alumni Association Development Committee to create and execute a Class Ambassador program for annual Reunion giving.
- Creates and manages an annual calendar of mid-level giving initiatives.
- Works with the Marketing and Communications department to formulate and execute a communications program supporting mid-level annual giving, including developing a distinct brand identity for the program and levels, with clear messaging around purpose and objectives.
- Oversees the development and production of all mid-level and societies giving collateral materials.
- Focuses on effective communication and solicitation activities within specific segments identified as having potential for the greatest growth.
- Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications department to create social media and content for the law school website and media channels on stewarding pieces that tell compelling stories (e.g., featuring volunteers, donors, student beneficiaries, etc.) about the importance of philanthropy (i.e., volunteering, giving) at Hofstra Law.
- Collaborates with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in fundraising, annual giving, donor stewardship, societies, volunteer management, with a track record of success.
- Experience conceptualizing, writing, and coordinating solicitation materials.
- Proven managerial skills and the ability to develop and inspire volunteers.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Strong analytical skills; must be detailed-oriented, thorough, and accurate.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals across various channels.
- Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently; ability to collaborate with others as part of a team.
- Excellent command of office technology tools including Microsoft Office Suite and AI technology.
- Outgoing personality and an optimistic and positive attitude.
- Good judgment, tact, sensitivity, and discretion in handling confidential information and situations.
- Highest ethical and professional behavior.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience using CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) is a plus.

$80,000 - $85,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
