Description
Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Health Services, the Lead Nurse Practitioner will support the mission, vision, and goals of a responsive wellness program in a dynamic university setting. The Lead Nurse Practitioner will provide direct healthcare services, in a well-established, highly regarded, and strongly supported campus health program with experienced and student-oriented healthcare practitioners.
The Lead Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the leadership and delivery of medical health and wellness care, which includes programs offered to a community of more than 10,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. This is an onsite position; work for this role is performed on campus.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, provides day to day oversight of the Student Health Center, including resolution of clinical and administrative issues, while collaborating and escalating as appropriate.
- Provides value-driven customer directed clinical care while supporting staff and student needs.
- Facilitates continuous performance improvement using data driven protocols and feedback from the community at large.
- Provides supervision, support, and direction to the Student Health Center, including multiple direct and indirect reports.
- Serves as a “super user” for Electronic Medical Records and ensures team members are trained in its use.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Student Health Center team, develops and implements initiatives to improve care delivery, patient and staff satisfaction, and the overall view of Student Health on campus.
- Reviews outstanding clinical documentation, referrals, pending results, and related follow up items to ensure accuracy and completion.
- Ensures follow up and resolution of clinical concerns for selected patients, as needed.
- Manages the care coordination work group and related meetings.
- Designates available time to the provision of teaching and scholarship with the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing & Physician Assistant Studies.
- Assists in integrated models of primary-behavioral and acute care, including those associated with educational initiatives.
- Engages with colleagues throughout the university and community at large to identify and respond to the needs of the Hofstra community and advocates for student health and wellness on campus.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing health care delivery and ensures timely assessment and filing of all regulatory documents.
- Engages in lifelong professional knowledge, skill development, and diversity, while continuously supporting administrative, clinical, and academic operations with standards of accreditation.
- Maintains close partnerships with other offices within Hofstra University as well as with faculty to address practices related to health care, emergency management, environmental issues, public health, and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A Master of Science in nursing degree with clinical training as a Nurse Practitioner required, doctoral degree preferred.
- Current nurse practitioner licensure or license-eligibility in New York at the time of hire and current, active national certification as a nurse practitioner.
- Minimum 2-5 years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner working with young adults.
- Understanding of and appreciation for university individual, community, and public health issues.
- Possess national board certification in population of focus.
- Possess knowledge of local and national issues, trends, and best practice standards in primary health care, college health, health insurance, and managed care.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the integration of health, wellness, and counseling services and a deep affinity and commitment to working closely with students and supporting a diverse student community.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a team leader and member.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills and a strong knowledge of electronic information systems for practice management and production of outcome reports.
- Willingness to be actively engaged in student affairs and college health professional activities and organizations.
- Proficiency in electronic health system.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care or Primary Care, preferred.
- Licensure as Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health, or an Adult Nurse Practitioner to facilitate provision of services for all students strongly preferred.
- Experience with telehealth.

Salary/Salary Range
$130,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
- Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
