Description
Reporting to the child care director, the teacher is responsible for providing a warm, nurturing classroom environment for children and a welcoming environment for parents and families. The teacher sets the standard of professionalism within the classroom, directing other team members in the following the curriculum, procedures and schedule set forth by the administration of the center.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Following the procedure and schedule set forth by the staff in the classroom.
- Assisting in the execution of planned activities and overall classroom management.
- Carrying out the mission set forth by the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute and Hofstra University.
- Understanding and respect for children, their developmental needs and interests; respect for a child’s family and culture; and commitment of continued professional development.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required.
- Experience working in a child care or early childhood education setting.
- Understands and respects children and their developmental needs and interests.
- Ability to be flexible and step into different roles as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Education component/specialization preferred.
- Experience working in a National Association for the Education of the Young Children (NAEYC) Accredited childcare center is a plus.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the NAEYC Accreditation Standards, NAEYC Accreditation process and Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum is preferred.
- Work experience with infants and toddlers is a plus.

Salary/Salary Range
$18 per hour

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
