Reading Interventionist
The Opportunity: PLA's Reading Interventionists (RI) are instrumental in increasing scholar motivation and supporting the educational growth of scholars throughout our schools. Reading Interventionists continually analyze scholar data to determine scholar needs. PLA's Reading Interventionists then use scripted lesson plans to respond to scholar needs, teaching small groups of scholars throughout the day. As a Reading Interventionist at Phalen Leadership Academies, you will work with varying groups and grade levels of scholars, rotating among classrooms, to support scholars with literacy skills.
The Details:
Key Deliverables:
Responsible for ensuring each scholar increases by a minimum of 10% proficiency in ELA per year on the state accountability assessment
Meet with assigned scholars daily for 30 minutes of Tier 2 instruction
Track growth data and ensure 100% of the scholars you serve either meet or exceed expected annual growth gains
Utilize instructional strategies and research-based intervention curriculum materials to meet the learning needs of identified scholars
Use data-driven instruction to help close the achievement gap of identified scholars
Coordinate groupings and rotations with TOR, SPED, IA, and other supporting staff
Experience and Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Valid teacher certification
Experience working with a scripted intervention program
Proven success in raising scholar achievement
Understanding/previous experience providing individual support for scholars

The Campus:
Hogan Preparatory Academy, managed by PLA, is located in the heart of Kansas City. Founded in 1942, our school was originally called Bishop Hogan, named after John Joseph Hogan, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas City, Missouri. Bishop Hogan operated as a private Catholic school until 1999 when we became a public charter school. We currently serve 1k scholars, PK through 12th grade. In addition to rigorous academics, we pride ourselves in offering art, music, foreign language and competitive youth sports, and a commitment to excellence in all that we do.
