What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Detailer/Draftsman position at Hohl Industrial Services, Inc?
Hohl Industrial Services is currently seeking a Lead Detailer/Draftsman to assist our Fabrication team in overseeing the daily activities of the detailing department and ensuring technical requirements and project scope are achieved. One will be responsible for using Tekla Structures and other drafting software to develop processes and procedures and oversee operation of our detailing department.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operation of the detailing department.
- Assist the GM of Fabrication Services with miscellaneous projects as assigned.
- Assist the GM of Fabrication Services with project assignments and project planning.
- Assist the GM of Fabrication Services in the assessment of hiring.
- Checking drawings and completing appropriate forms, or assigning others as required to complete this task.
- Developing and maintaining company detailing standards and procedures.
- Coordinating and incorporating construction design and code requirements.
- Manage department deadlines and push the team to ensure timeliness.
- Resolves complex fabrication project related issues, disputes & disagreements both with fabrication shop and with customers.
- Mentoring and coaching of Detailers to elevate team morale.
- Identify and develop training for the detailing department.
- Develop and recommend internal policies and procedures.
- Assist the GM of Fabrication Services in the review and approval of detailing outsourcing when required.
- Communicates and attends meetings with the customer for clarity of direction in project objectives.
- All duties as assigned for normal detailing duties, including providing drawings and submittals.
- Provides concept drawings for inclusion with quotations.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 15 - 20 years' experience in drafting or design.
- 10 years of experience using Tekla Structures strongly preferred.
- Experience with AISC/AWS drawing and detailing standards.
- Knowledge of AISC Code of Standard Practice for Steel Building and Bridges.
- Knowledge of AWS welding codes including D1.1, D1.5, D1.6, and D1.2.
- Knowledge of RCSC structural bolting (including hardware specs and bolting installation methods).
- Knowledge of AWS A2.4 standard symbols for welding, brazing and NDE.
- Knowledge of NYS Steel Construction Manual along with NYS DOT Standard Specifications.
- Basic knowledge of NDE methods including MT, PT, UT, & RT.
- Basic welding process knowledge FCAW, GMAW, GMAW-S, SAW, & SMAW.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications.
- Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks preferrable.
- Experience in producing shop and erection drawings for projects typical to the industries and projects provided by Hohl Industrial. Eagerness to learn and grow within the industrial construction sector.
