Qualifications:
- Classroom Teaching Experience required
- Master's degree in education administration, or related field and considerable experience
- teaching, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Eligibility for North Carolina Principal Licensure required
Supervises:
- School personnel as assigned by the principal
Essential Job Functions:
- Serves as an instructional leader and role model for students and staff by staying current on
curriculum, instruction, and assessments; and by interacting with all stakeholders in a professional, ethical manner
- Enforces discipline, health, safety and general welfare standards for students and staff throughout the campus and during off campus school sponsored events
- Monitors the entire school campus to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors
- Observes classrooms and performs walkthroughs; performs pre- and post-conference observations; evaluates staff performance
- Facilitates and attends various meetings
- Handles attendance and truancy issues by meeting with students, conducting parent calls, etc.
- Supervises students on all areas of the campus including classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, etc.
- Performs evening supervision at various events and functions including dances, athletic events, extra-curricular activities, etc.
- Assigns, directs, trains and reviews staff work; develops staff schedules; coaches and/or counsels staff; provides recommendation regarding hiring, promoting, suspending, and terminating staff
- Manages the transportation program for the school
- Assists in the implementation of student orientation, registration, and scheduling
- Assists in ensuring that the district mission statement is carried out and that the School
- Improvement Plan is adhered to by all stakeholders of the school
- Assists in the evaluation of the school program and of staff and assists to initiate needed improvements
- Assists the principal in involving the staff in setting budget priorities
- Acts to upgrade own professional knowledge and skills
- Assists in the preparation and management of budgets and schedules and in the coordination and implementation of the co-curricular program
- Uses and promotes technological tools
- Assists to define and disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community
- Communicates and carries out established policies, delegates and accepts responsibility for completion of tasks and communicates program goals, objectives and policies to the community
- Assist in supervising and maintaining auxiliary services and uses community resources to supplement the school program
- Promotes and maintains open communications, promotes positive student attitudes respects dignity and worth of staff and students and complies with established lines of authority
- Assists in completion of records and reports in the supervision and inventory of necessary supplies, textbooks, equipment and materials
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Assistant Principal job
classification within Hoke County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. This position requires the ability to move around the campus in order to monitor and to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Must be able to:
- Understand and apply a thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all facets of a school
- Understand and apply a thorough knowledge of prescribed School Board and district policies, rules and procedures
- Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, students and the general public
- Prepare, read and comprehend a variety of job related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job
- Understand and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style
- Speak to individuals or groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
- Respond adequately to inquiries or complaints
- Write using standard convention in all languages required by the job
- Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
- Communicate effectively and efficiently, both orally and in writing
