Job Description:
A Detention Officer’s responsibilities are to include but not limited to standing for long periods of time, walking 100 yards or more 24-36 times in a 12-hour shift and use stairs frequently, heavy lifting, physical confrontations, good communication skills, knowledge of basic computer skills.
Overview: Ensures that all inmates are secured and medical needs are met. Additionally, ensures the safety and welfare of both detention officers and inmates are addressed according to rules and regulations.
Essential Duties:
- Visually check all inmates at designated times
- Perform additional checks on special needs inmates
- Perform inmate counts
- Perform laundry duties
- Books, searches, and collects property from inmates and advises all inmates of policies that govern their conduct while in the detention facility upon intake.
- Process new inmates into the detention center
- Perform transportation of inmates
- Conduct cell and facility searches
- Maintain shift logs and other files
- Escort inmates to courts
- Assist with inmate visitations
- Other duties as assigned
- Work within a structured setting
Job Type: Full-time
