Reports to: Front Desk Manager and/or General Manager
Job Summary:
A breakfast attendant’s main responsibility is to provide a clean and well-stocked breakfast area and to ensure absolute guest satisfaction by providing friendly and courteous service.
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility in a safe and satisfactory manner, and the individual must be punctual and have a good attendance record, and have reliable means of transportation to work. Work Environment:
Front Desk, Back Office Areas, Guest Rooms, Laundry Room, Pool Pump Room, Maintenance Room and all Public Areas.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist all guests in a sincere and courteous manner, whenever possible going the extra mile and doing whatever it takes to ensure absolute guest satisfaction.
- Set up breakfast according to hotel operational policies and standards and in compliance with local county and/or city health department standards.
- Attend to guest needs, ensuring food is continually replenished and presented in an appealing manner.
- Clear and clean tables and chairs, as well as check floor for debris between guests.
- Maintain clean and well-organized dining and work area, including disinfecting all areas where food is prepared or served.
- Maintain all dispensing machines, operating equipment and serving utensils in a neat and clean manner to ensure maximum job efficiency and an appealing presentation.
- Organize storage areas to ensure the quality of the food, implementing “first in, first out” method of food rotation.
- Plan and prepare for the following day. Check inventory of supplies taking action as necessary to ensure adequate quantity and quality of products for the next day.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of all services and facilities of the hotel, as well as the local area to effectively assist guests; this includes a working knowledge of the local attractions and activities around the hotel in order to effectively respond to guest inquiries.
- Maintain a record of guest requests for breakfast items and provide information to the General Manager in order to continually exceed guest expectations of the breakfast program.
- Understand and apply all hotel safety and security procedures to maintain a secure and safe environment for employees and guests.
- Keep immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance coming to his/her attention so prompt corrective action can be taken.
- Perform other duties as requested or required.
- Understand that business demands sometimes make it necessary to move associated from their accustomed shift to other shifts
- Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
- Anticipate guests’ needs and respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, no matter how busy or what time of day.
- Maintain positive guest relations at all times, including resolving guest complaints where possible.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.
- Maintain complete knowledge of all buffet food selections, preparation method, major ingredients, quality standards, appearance and serving temperature.
- Complete opening side duties as assigned:
- Check quality and amount of all restaurant stock and supplies using checklist.
- Requisition all necessary supplies and transport from Storeroom to Restaurant.
- Set tables according to service standards.
- Set up all condiments (butter, jellies, syrups, juices) and beverages (non-alcoholic).
- Ensure a sufficient supply of all silverware, glassware and chinaware for service.
- Prepare all cold food items (cereals, fruits, salads).
- Set up Buffet station with supplies and equipment.
- Prepare all varieties of coffee.
- Adhere to control procedures for cost and quality.
- Check and control the proper storage and rotation of product, checking on portion control to maintain a quality product.
- Practice inventory controls, including the preparation of and pick up of item from the storeroom.
- Store all food in refrigerated boxes including covers, labels and dates.
- Clean walk-ins and reach-in boxes to ensure all equipment in working areas is clean and sanitary and in proper working condition in order to comply with health department regulations.
- Maintain cooking and preparation areas in a clean condition at all times.
- Check and replenish beverages.
- Check and replenish designated items on the Buffet table in short supply.
- Clear tables after each course.
- Remove soiled wares from tables as assigned and transport to dishwashing area
- Extend appreciation for guest’s patronage and invite them to return.
- Clean and reset tables immediately after guest departs.
- Complete closing side duties: * Properly store all reusable goods.
- Breakdown all goods.
- Clean all equipment as assigned in the side duties.
- Restock items for next service.
- Remove all dirty linen.
- Marry and stock all condiments.
- Reset tables for next meal period.
- Assist in breakdown of Buffet table, as assigned.
- Complete all closing reports as assigned and leave duty after reporting to Supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and neat appearance at all times. A complete uniform (or business dress for non-uniformed associates) must be worn at all times in public areas, including name tag.
Qualification Standards

- Ability to work safely with cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, etc.
- Grooming must meet property standards.
Desirable:
- Previous experience as Breakfast Attendant.
- Previous guest relations training.
Education:
- Must be able to speak, read, write, or otherwise communicate, and understand English used in the workplace.
- Must be able to speak, or otherwise communicate, and understand the primary language(s) used by guests who visit the workplace.
