The Holiday Inn & Suites Duluth-Downtown, is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and flexible Banquet Services Manager to join our Team. Our award-winning, full-service hotel has 338 guest rooms, 2 restaurants, and 12,000 square feet of multi-functional banquet, convention, and meeting space.
The hotel’s Banquet facilities include the 7,200 square foot Great Lakes Ballroom (which seats up to 325 people), the 2,550 square foot Lyric Conference Center (which seats up to 125 people), and 4 Hospitality Rooms each 400 square feet. We offer a wide variety of catering options and impeccable service.
Job Summary:
The Banquet Manager is responsible for the successful execution of all banquet events and the overall management of banquet operations. This role includes monitoring departmental expenses to maximize profitability, ensuring compliance with hotel, franchise, and government policies and procedures, and aligning operations with organizational goals. A key focus of the position is to deliver exceptional guest satisfaction by maintaining high standards of service and seamless event execution.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manages the department in compliance with established hotel and department policies and procedures; applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations; and IHG brand standards.
- Ensures consistent delivery of high-quality service, placing a strong focus on guest satisfaction.
- Works in cooperation with the Food & Beverage Director, Sales Team, and Banquet Chef to understand event details, customer expectations, and special requirements in order to deliver a flawless experience for our guests.
- Ensures proper setup of event spaces to meet guest requests and needs. Sets up, operates, and troubleshoots issues with audio-visual equipment, including projectors, microphones, sound systems, etc.
- Greets clients at the beginning of events, addressing last-minute requests or changes. Monitors service throughout functions/events, anticipates challenges, and takes corrective action as needed in an efficient and discreet manner.
- Conducts post-event evaluations, reviews client feedback, and implements improvements to enhance future event execution.
- Leads, mentors, and inspires a diverse team of associates. Directly supervises Banquet Servers, Bartenders, and Housepersons. Assists with recruiting, hiring, and training associates. Creates and distributes work schedules
- Creates and fosters a culture of excellence, teamwork, and professional growth throughout the department. Plans and conducts department meetings, focused training, and special projects.
- Monitors budgeted revenues and expenses, working to maximize department profitability.
- Oversees the inventory and usage of banquet supplies, equipment, and beverages to ensure adequate stock levels for upcoming events.
- During periods of reduced banquet activity, the Banquet Services Manager, as a key member of the Food & Beverage leadership team, will provide support to the Lyric Kitchen · Bar and Greenery Cafe as needed.
Candidate Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Proven experience as an event manager or similar leadership role within the hospitality industry is preferred.
- Related management or supervisory experience is preferred, including responsibility for multiple direct reports.
- Highly effective interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Windows/Microsoft Office applications and POS systems, and the ability to learn other hotel computer systems and software. Experience with AV equipment setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet company standards regarding driving for business-related purposes.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, to meet business demands.
