COMPENSATION:
$18.75/hour, 8 hour days
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
The goal of the HOLLA School Classroom Mentor is to relationally connect with students, staff and families, and to be a
positive role model in the classroom. The Classroom Mentor embodies the HOLLA School values and supports in
changing the academic narrative for Black, Brown and Indigenous youth. The Classroom Mentor provides classroom
support for a Lead Teacher as they guide the class through a lesson by preparing materials, interacting with students and
supervising projects. Each Classroom Mentor’s role varies depending on the needs of the classroom and students. The
Classroom Mentor will focus on utilizing culturally responsive, relational, trauma-informed and restorative practices.
Unstructured times such as lunch/recess provide the Classroom Mentor time to be present and connect with students
outside of instructional time. The Classroom Mentor works in partnership with the school administration and classroom
teacher. The Classroom mentor provides in-class, small group and 1-1 student support as needed.The Classroom Mentor
helps build meaningful relationships with the families of the students.
CLASSROOM MENTOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The role of Classroom Mentor at HOLLA School is a unique and critical position. The primary focus is on student
relationships. Classroom Mentors establish rapport, encourage student development and foster a nurturing environment
for each learner they encounter. Responsibilities can include but are not limited to: coordinating activities with the Lead
or Classroom Teacher; supporting learners with assignments like reading, basic arithmetic, science, history or art under
the guidance of the classroom instructor; setting up classroom supplies, leading small group activities, supporting small
group breakout sessions, providing students with 1:1 support or social emotional check-ins like, "How is your day
going? Let's talk about it." or playing a game or specific activity for the child's benefit and well-being as set forth by the
school team. Other duties include collecting data on teacher-created forms, attending professional development
meetings, functioning as a point of connection between home and school for our families and participating in school
events. As needed, classroom mentors will step in to substitute when classroom teachers are out as they can provide
stability for students in classroom culture, rhythm and curriculum.
Classroom Mentors provide student support during lunch, classroom breaks and activities. Classroom Mentors may also
be asked to gather supplies, support walking or community field trips, move furniture, make photocopies for a particular
lesson, lay out materials, read with a child, assist a student who may need the calming presence of an adult until they are
ready to attempt a new or different activity. Classroom Mentors are another set of eyes and ears in the school community
and should anticipate exercising good judgment and to be adaptable, flexible and ready to support as needed, throughout
the school day. Classroom Mentors may be asked to perform other duties as part of the collective support for students
and HOLLA School.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
● High School Diploma or equivalent or higher; or combined relevant experience
Experience:
● Experience working with elementary aged youth
● Experience working in diverse settings with diverse people
● Experience mentoring youth preferred
● Experience speaking, reading and/or writing in languages other than English

● All HOLLA School Staff are required to submit to a background check as part of the pre-employment process as
well as on an ongoing basis
