What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Intern position at Holland, City of (MI)?
Under the supervision of various Engineering staff, provides support to assure accurate, efficient operation of the department while also gaining engineering experience.1. Perform field inspections to check on the progress of various projects.
2. Assist in road and sidewalk construction projects, including painting limits and placing pavement markings.
3. Assist in evaluating the condition of the road network.
4. Assist in evaluating the condition of the sidewalk network.
5. Assist with permitting and design review.
6. Perform field inspections to check on the storm sewer system throughout the City.
7. Perform traffic counts to obtain speed, volume, and class data on vehicles traveling on city roads.
8. Attend progress meetings and stay informed of project details.
9. Review storm sewer videos and advise supervisor of problems.
10. Perform field survey for various City projects.
11. Prepare public communications, such as emails, letters, postcards and other correspondence.
12. Assist with traffic control, including putting out message boards, barrels, cones, and signing work zones for no parking.
1. The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of high school.
2. One or more years of experience in an engineering or civil engineering program.
3. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with the general public in situations requiring tact and patience.
4. Proficient computer skills necessary to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other applications.
5. Ability to drive between Transportation Services and various projects around the City. Must have a valid driver’s license.
6. Must be at least 18 years of age.1. Normal office environment with little, if any, discomfort due to heat, dust, noise and the like.
