Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for various cost accounting functions, supporting financial reporting, inventory management, and variance analysis. This role involves close collaboration with operational teams and senior management to drive cost optimization, improve internal controls, and ensure accurate financial reporting. The Cost Accountant will play a key role in supporting the monthly close process, annual cost roll, and strategic financial planning activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Roll costs for changes in raw materials, labor rates, and overheads as necessary to ensure accurate and up-to-date cost tracking.
- Actively investigate cost discrepancies and resolve any issues that arise, collaborating with various departments to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Answer and resolve any cost-related inquiries from plant operations or finance teams.
- Lead the annual cost roll process for the entire company, ensuring all cost changes are incorporated into the system and properly reflected in financial reports.
- Prepare and review cost assumptions and analyze the impact of any changes in cost drivers.
- Manage the monthly close process, including the preparation of journal entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Reconcile inventory accounts and other financial accounts to ensure the integrity of the company’s financial records.
- Assist the Plant Controller and Operations Directors with preparing forecasts, budgets, and other financial analyses to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Assist in the preparation of Monthly Business Unit Reports (MDRs), ensuring timely and accurate financial data is compiled.
- Prepare daily productivity reports, analyzing production efficiency and cost performance against expectations.
- Ensure timely and accurate daily inventory reporting, identifying discrepancies and proposing corrective actions as needed.
- Prepare weekly Production Planning and Materials (PPM) information, analyzing trends and forecasting material needs to ensure alignment with production schedules.
- Assist in the implementation and improvement of internal controls to ensure compliance with corporate policies, financial regulations, and best practices.
- Collaborate with the Accounts Payable team to resolve any receiving issues at the plants, ensuring all invoices match the corresponding purchase orders and receipts.
- Assist in coordinating and overseeing the annual physical inventory process, including ensuring proper documentation and reporting for accurate inventory reconciliation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- CPA or CMA certification (preferred but not required).
- 3 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or multi-site environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, cost accounting methods, and inventory management.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and complex formulas.
- GAAP & SOX 404 experience
- Solid understanding of Standard Costing Method
- Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
