Position Overview:
We are seeking a proactive, results-oriented, and highly skilled Cost Manager. This key role will be responsible for overseeing the company’s cost accounting functions, focusing on the accuracy of our standard costs which include the Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Routers, variance analysis, and support our cost optimization. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams, operations, including pricing, and new product development (NPD) to ensure that cost structures, product margins, and pricing decisions are aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the management and continual improvement of Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Routers, ensuring timely and accurate updates to support standard costing and inventory management.
- Lead efforts to audit and update BOMs and Routers, prioritizing critical products and ensuring alignment across all manufacturing locations.
- Collaborate with operations teams to analyze, identify, and address discrepancies in cost structure and inventory data across manufacturing locations.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of cost data, variance analysis, and reports on manufacturing performance against standard costs.
- Provide in-depth analysis of raw materials, labor, and overhead costs to senior management, highlighting areas for cost improvement and operational efficiency.
- Work closely with the pricing team to ensure that product margins are accurate, identify unprofitable products, and support pricing decisions that align with the company’s profitability objectives.
- Collaborate with the pricing team to ensure that accurate cost data is used in pricing decisions for both existing and new products.
- Assist the pricing team in analyzing product margins, highlighting products that are unprofitable, and recommending pricing strategies to optimize profitability.
- Support NPD by analyzing and advising on the costing of new products and ensuring that they meet margin targets before product release.
- Manage the integration of newly acquired companies, ensuring alignment of cost accounting systems, BOMs, Routers, and inventory practices with company standards.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, SOX 404 regulations, and best practices for cost accounting and manufacturing reporting.
- Work closely with IT and ERP teams to optimize cost accounting system capabilities and improve the accuracy of cost data capture, reporting, and system integration.
- Partner with operations, procurement, pricing, and NPD teams to ensure the timely and accurate implementation of changes in cost structure.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
- CPA, CMA, or similar certification (preferred).
- 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or multi-site environment.
- Extensive experience with Bill of Materials (BOMs), Routers, and standard costing.
- Experience with pricing analysis and supporting product margin decisions.
- Knowledge of cost accounting for new product development (NPD) and supporting pricing strategies for product launches.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and complex financial modeling.
- Experience with ERP systems, ideally with manufacturing modules (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to provide actionable insights based on data.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and at all levels of the organization.
- Familiarity with GAAP, SOX 404, and best practices in cost accounting.
- This position may require periodic travel to various manufacturing locations.
