Job Overview
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB: To use leadership and teaching skills to promote the educational development of each student.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: 1. Provides an effective program of instruction based on the needs and capabilities of students. 2. Encourages students to set and maintain acceptable standards of classroom behavior. 3. Develops and maintains a classroom environment appropriate for the learners, within the limits of available resources and consistent with the findings of effective schools research. 4. Collaborates with the supervisor toward the setting of goals as appropriate for the improvement of instruction. 5. Prepares written lesson plans consistent with district policy. 6. Cooperates with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. 7. Correlates individual instructional objectives with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the district’s planned courses. 8. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 9. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations. 10. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when necessary and under reasonable terms. 11. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with and behavioral progress of all students.
OTHER DUTIES OF JOB: 1. Maintains records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. 2. Attends and participates in faculty, department, and district meetings as per negotiated contract. 3. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. 4. Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with others. 5. Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with district policies and practices as per negotiated contract.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives instruction and supervision from the Building Principal in regard to work duties. SUPERVISION GIVEN: None
WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Works indoors in adequate workspace, lighting, ventilation, and temperatures. 2. Works with average indoor exposure to noise and stress. 3. Works indoors with normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt. 4. Periodically exposed to irate faculty members and/or parents.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS: 1. Must possess hearing, seeing, speaking, smelling, and reasoning senses necessary to carry out job duties. 2. Must possess ability to record, convey, and present information; explain policies and procedures; and follow instructions. Teacher Page 2 of 2 3. Must possess ability to sit, stand, and walk periodically throughout the workday with occasional carrying, reaching, and grasping as necessary to carry out job duties. 4. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of hands/fingers to operate a computer and calculator to simple movements of feet/legs and torso necessary to carry out job duties. 5. Must be able to pay close attention to detail and concentrate on work. 6. Sedentary work with occasional lifting and carrying of objects with weights of approximately ten pounds. QUALIFICATIONS: A. EDUCATION/TRAINING: Appropriate Certificate from PA Dept. of Education B. WORK EXPERIENCE: One year of experience working in the relevant department or an equivalent combination of acceptable education and/or experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential function of job. 2. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills. 3. Must possess initiative and problem-solving skills. 4. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with clients, co workers, and others. 5. Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to student information and records. 6. Must possess the technical knowledge of operating personal computers and other office equipment with accuracy and reasonable speed. 7. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. 8. Must possess knowledge/experience with using computers to supplement learning activities. 9. Must possess knowledge/experience in providing applied learning experiences for students. 10. Must possess ability to understand and implement student performance standards and related assessment procedures. 11. Must possess ability to demonstrate and understand individualized instructional processes
