Role: Communications Specialist

Contract Length: 1 year

Location: Hybrid/ Rochester- 2 days remote 3 days in office

Pay Rate: $34.26/hour


Position Overview:


The Communications Specialist will provide strategic communications consultation and guidance to various clients. The Specialist will plan, drive, implement, monitor, and measure results of communications plans to advance companies mission, strategic plan, and business objectives. The Specialist has strong skills in the field of communications, media relations, social media, digital, news and/or staff engagement communications activities. Demonstrates a strong understanding of the communications discipline along with critical thinking and strategic counseling skills. Represents client internally and externally. Demonstrates project management skills and the ability to manage projects through the entire project life cycle. Demonstrates strong writing, editing, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Proactively seeks opportunities to build and improve positive relationships with colleagues, leaders, and experts. Understands and acts independently to drive functional strategies forward to advance companies mission, strategic plan, and business goals. Builds credibility with peers and internal stakeholders. Assesses opportunities for improvements, and demonstrates willingness and ability to adapt to change.


The CV Communications Specialist will be a part of the companies Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and provide strategic communication support to the department and its senior leaders. The Communications Specialist will develop and execute strategic communication plans that align with the companies Bold. Forward. strategy within the clinical practice shield; promote the department’s transformative initiatives and business objectives; enhance internal and external communication; and foster collaboration among clinicians, scientists, and allied health staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and translate the needs and goals of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine into effective, integrated communication strategies.
  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans to enhance the department’s reputation as a Category of One for serious and complex care among consumer, physician, and academic audiences.
  • Promote department priorities and transformative initiatives through a wide variety of written, multimedia, and visual content across various communication channels in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, clinicians, and allied health professionals.
  • Effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences, including researchers, clinicians, staff, patients, and the general public.
  • Generate and manage content for digital and social media platforms to enhance online presence and visibility.
  • Leverage data and analytics to measure the impact of communication efforts and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Produce clear, well-written, grammatically correct, and factually accurate copy and content.
  • Partner with Media Relations to coordinate clients experts for media interviews or generate timely content for distribution to media.

Additional Experience and/or Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field, which may include liberal arts, business, communications, marketing, healthcare, or similar field, plus 3 years professional experience in a relevant field.
  • Broad based knowledge of communications marketing strategies.
  • Requires strong leadership, problem solving, critical thinking, active listening, persuasive, oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven communications consultative, planning and execution abilities.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a consensus-style and collaborative environment that expects and promotes teamwork.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively to prioritize and drive forward multiple projects.
  • Must possess high personal motivation supporting a strong work ethic, flexibility, and creativity. Has a positive influence on others.
  • Position requires occasional travel and the flexibility to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
  • Broad-based knowledge of communications and marketing strategies
  • Experience supporting executive-level communication across a large, matrixed department. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional business writing, editing, storytelling, fact-checking, and proofreading skills to deliver a message that is clear, accurate, and persuasive.
  • The ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy.
  • Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies.
  • Requires strong leadership; problem-solving; critical thinking; active listening; persuasive oral and written communication skills; presentation skills; and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to manage projects through the entire project life cycle.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities/solutions and resolve challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results.
  • Must understand how to deal with and navigate ambiguity, and act without having the total picture.
