RESPONSIBILITIES
Our full- or part-time Early Childhood Special Educator works with visually impaired children, ages birth to three years old, and provides specialized instruction plans within a medical and educational framework. Working with children in individual and group settings, you perform detailed assessments, develop a custom curriculum, and implement the program using an interdisciplinary, family-centered, and culturally diverse approach. You closely collaborate with other direct service providers and teachers to deliver a well-rounded program.
Your role involves evaluating children's social, adaptive, and cognitive development and creating a specialized curriculum to address individual needs. Ensuring comprehensive care, you provide information about behavior management, and inform families about relevant resources, funding sources, and additional support services. You also attend conferences and stay on top of current research.
EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATOR QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Master's degree from an accredited college with a quality teacher training program
- Endorsements in special education and early childhood education
- Washington State Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification
- O&M certification preferred
- State driver's license, reliable transportation, and personal insurance
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Food handler's permit
SKILLS AND EXPERTISE
- Knowledge of child development processes and how family, economic, and cultural issues affect early intervention
- Knowledge of IFSPs, Washington State special education, and federal early intervention regulations
- Dependability, punctuality, and a proactive spirit
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and ability to complete timely, high-quality work
- Professional attitude, friendly demeanor, and a commitment to safety
- Ability to conduct home visits
