POSITION SUMMARY
The Town of Holly Springs is searching for Building Codes Inspectors! These positions are responsible for performing inspections of properties to verify compliance with the approved construction documents, adopted codes, and ordinances of the Town, to safeguard public health, safety, and general welfare.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
These positions report to the Development Services Supervisor – Building Inspections. Works under general guidance to ensure coordination of objectives and priorities of the department.
This position is apart of a career ladder at levels I, II and III. Level II and Level III Building Codes Inspectors are highly preferred.
The work schedule is business hours with occasional evenings and weekends. The starting annual salary range is is $59,307.01-$105,917.86 (Grades I/K/L).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Successfully trained Building Inspectors will be assigned higher level functions based upon experience and certification obtained.
1. Performs multi-trade inspections on residential and non-residential installations as required by the North Carolina State Building Codes in the areas of Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing trades.
2. Review and approve or disapprove small field revisions and construction documents to be compliant with the NC State Building Codes.
3. Prepare and report notifications of defects or approval of inspections completed.
4. Provides technical assistance and explains and interprets codes, ordinances, and regulations for design professionals, contractors, owners and the general public within the Town and ETJ.
5. Represents the Department at public meetings and Court proceedings, as assigned.
6. Attends regular Department meetings to stay current on interdepartmental happenings and inspector workloads.
7. Provides internal customer service assisting with support and coverage as needed of other positions in the Department.
8. Aids in training of new staff members as assigned.
9. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
? Knowledge and related experience in building construction including building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.
? Knowledge of related building codes and ordinances, proper inspection methods, and legal procedures involving enforcement of building codes and ordinances.
? Knowledge of safety regulations in construction.
? Knowledge of the principals and practices of code compliance programs.
? Knowledge of blueprints, layouts, construction plans, and parcel maps.
? Skill in identifying technical and operational problems and recommending appropriate corrective actions.
? Knowledge of the Town and Department’s operating requirements, policies, procedures, and practices; and local, State, and Federal regulations related to department programs and operations.
? Ability to research and analyze detailed information and make appropriate recommendations.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma/equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Associate's degree in a construction field.
• Skilled trade experience and/or technical training in the field of building, electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing. Level II and Level III experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Must possess a valid Driver’s license.
• Level I Standard Certificate issued by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board for the following areas within the timeline specified by the Town: Building Inspector Level 1, Electrical Inspector Level 1, Mechanical Inspector Level 1, and Plumbing Inspector Level 1.
• Level II Inspectors must have at least (1) Standard Certificate in the following areas: Building Inspector Level II, Electrical Inspector Level II, Mechanical Inspector Level II, or Plumbing Inspector Level II.
• Level III Inspectors must have at least (1) Standard Certificate in the following areas: Building Inspector Level III, Electrical Inspector Level III, Mechanical Inspector Level III, or Plumbing Inspector Level III.
• Must pass background and criminal history checks.
