POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing work in the installation, construction, repair and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, curbs and stormwater infrastructure. The Public Works Technician-Streets position offers a great opportunity for professional growth and development within the Streets Division and the Town of Holly Springs. The work schedule is Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Public Works Supervisor and may receive instruction form the Crew Leader. Work is checked for accuracy, quality and adherence to instructions. Employee may need to occasionally choose from defined alternatives to resolve problems but consults with Crew Leader on matters not covered by guidelines. Incumbents have no supervisory responsibilities.
The Public Works Technician I-Streets position will perform duties within the Public Works Department-Streets Division providing support to the Streets Team by mowing, installing and repairing signs, asphalt repair, tree trimming, conducting area inspections, special event preparation, and aiding during periods of inclement weather as needed.
The Public Works Technician I-Streets starting annual salary is $41,803.36, pay grade C.
The Public Works Technician II-Streets position requires NC Class B CDL. The starting annual salary for this position is $44,316.37, pay grade D.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Assists with proper set up of work site traffic control; helps ensure safe control and direction of traffic.
2. Assists with street sign replacement and installation.
3. Repairs and paints guard rails, reflectors, and right-of-way markers; paints parking lots and parking lines.
4. Trims trees, cuts grass, and removes debris along the side of the assigned locations; aerates and seeds; sprays pesticides along guard rails.
5. Assists with placement and removal of holiday and event decorations, banners, etc.
6. Clears storm drains and maintains stormwater conveyance infrastructure.
7. Applies rock salt/salt brine and performs snow and ice removal from Town streets and sidewalks; snow plowing.
8. Installs new and refurbishes street markings and stop bars; installs, maintains and repairs guardrails.
9. Operates and uses hand tools and operates equipment to dig holes and replace clean areas for paving.
10. Operates a variety of construction equipment such as tractor trailer combinations, dump trucks, snow plows, rock salt/salt brine delivery combinations, backhoes, excavators, motor graders, compact and front end loaders, asphalt rollers, street sweepers and other related light and medium equipment used in the work.
11. Performs operator’s preventative checks and minor preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
12. Responds as essential field personnel in emergency and inclement weather situations.
13. Assists with set-up and clean-up for Town-sponsored festivals, parades, and events.
14. Assists with cutting grass with tractors, bush hogs, lawn and riding mowers, weed eating, trimming bushes and trees to maintain sight distance.
15. May assist with the repair of asphalt and concrete with a variety of materials to include aggregates, hot mix asphalt, cold mix asphalt and concrete.
16. Assists concrete/solid waste department during leaf season.
17. Reports to work for after hour needs, as assigned.
18. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
