Job Summary

This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Merchandising & Marketing on the Analytics Team. In this role, the Senior Analytics Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing models that support analysis and reporting as well as preparing reports. They must have a desire to create new processes in a growing company and a passion for data driven decision making, data integrity, strong analytical skills, and the ability to speak on data projects at every level from stakeholder to technical. 

Key Responsibilities

• Data Modeling: Build and maintain data models in line with accepted data modeling methods.
• Forecasting: Continuously refine forecasting models with third parties to improve accuracy.
• Analytics and Reporting: Prepare and present reports and visualizations for teams on key performance indicators as well as analyze data to find insights.
• Documentation and Training: Create and maintain technical documentation on data models, transformation logic, and create resources to help teams utilize data effectively.
• Cross Functional Collaboration: Work closely with data analysts, managers, and business stakeholders to define data needs and ensure they have accurate, timely data access.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to the development of tools and methodologies to enhance analytics capabilities.
• Data Quality & Validation Reinforcement: Help implement quality checks and testing on transformed data to maintain data integrity and reliability.
• Data Preparation Assistance: Help collect and clean large datasets from various sources.
• Data Transformation Assistance: Help develop and implement transformation processes to structure data for analysis and work with Data Engineer(s) to move or create those processes upstream. 
• Team Management: Manage direct reports and provide mentorship and feedback that fosters their development as analytics and data professionals.

Requirements & Qualifications

• This position requires 45 - 50 hours/week in our Memphis office and may require some weekend and evening availability.

• A proactive approach and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s in a related field with 5 years experience or equivalent of 5-7 years experience in a similar role, preferably in the retail industry.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses and platforms like Microsoft Azure.
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel or other data analysis tools.
• Strong experience with SQL. 
• Experience using PowerBI and Sisense for building reporting.
• Experience with application of statistics, Conditional probability, decision making under certainty and uncertainty, and micro economics.

Preferred Experience

• Fundamental knowledge of the pet industry, pet nutrition, and retail operations.
• Familiarity with inventory management software is preferred.
• Knowledge of a programming language (Python, R) for data processing and analysis.
• Knowledge of Kimball Dimensional Data Modeling.
• Knowledge of Edward Tufte’s Data Visualization Principles.
• Experience with Power Automate is preferred.
• Experience with data quality checks.
• Experience with dax is preferred.
• Microsoft DP-600 Certification

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in an office setting.
