What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Educator position at Holocaust Museum Houston?
The Museum Educator is a full-time, exempt staff position responsible for providing programming on the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights for students, community groups, and teachers across the Greater Houston area.
The Museum Educator is primarily responsible for supporting the Educator in Motion program. The Educator in Motion program sends museum educators in person to schools and community groups across the greater Houston region (and virtually to groups around the United States). During the 2023-2024 school year, the Educator in Motion team reached more than 31,000 students across 29 school districts.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement educational programs for learners K-16 as part of the Educator in Motion program
- Work directly with student groups on outreach programs in schools, community settings, or in the museum
- Create and/or enhance partnerships with local organizations and schools
- Create and present programming for adults, including teachers and community members
- Attend and present professionally at conferences and seminars related to the Holocaust, teaching practices, and other relevant issues
- Assist with training for outward facing museum employees and volunteers including docents and gallery hosts
- Requires some nights and weekends
Required Skills
- Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree required
- Reliable transportation required
- Knowledge of and experience in Holocaust and genocide education
- Knowledge of and experience in education and community settings
- Classroom management and teaching experience preferred
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams
- Spanish language proficiency required
